If I buy the DVD, how hard will it be to update the game? Is there an actual registration code included that will work with future updates? The Plimus order form reads: “Eschalon: Book II DVD with Registration number” — which makes me wonder. Also, I know there is an update/expansion in the works.

The version of the game on the DVD is 1.03. It’s got all of the significant bug fixes in place, and it’s a perfect version to have on physical media before the 2012 zombie apocalypse when all networks will fail.
You can always download the latest version from the website (including the upcoming expansion area included with version 1.05) and use your Registration Number to play it. You don’t have to just play the version on the disc. The benefit to having the disc is:
– All three versions forever at your fingertips.
– The full music soundtrack to listen to.
– A huge hi-res world map of Eschalon that you can print.
– Hi-res versions of the Book II trailer and test footage.
