Eschalon: Book I 1.06 Now available

Eschalon: Book I version 1.06 is now available! This version fixes a few glitches that have been reported by several users. If you haven’t experienced any crashes or glitches, then version 1.06 will offer no noticeable improvements for you.

Here are some important things to know about this new version:

For Mac users: 1.06 is an Intel-processor only build. See our previous update- we are no longer supporting PowerPC-based Macs. If you have a PowerPC Mac, we obviously recommend that you do not upgrade.

For Linux users: 1.06 is compiled with the latest libraries on Ubuntu 10.04. This might make the game incompatible with your system. Consider trying the demo before you request a new download link.

Links for the demo can be found in the downloads section of our website. If you need a new full version, please email us your purchase information (order number works best!) and we can activate a new download link for you.

We are sending these updates out to our distributors (Steam, Direct2Drive, Impulse, etc.) tonight. They will have their versions updated in a few days if you bought your copy through them.

Farewell, PowerPC Macs!

Supporting a discontinued piece of hardware is difficult.

Earlier we posted a question regarding whether or not we should continue to support the PowerPC Macintosh platform, and the overwhelming response from our customers so far has been that it is now okay to discontinue this support. Two years ago we asked the same question and the response was far different.

We asked this question because while we want to cater to as many platforms as possible, it is becoming impossible to compile our games on the PowerPC Mac due to lack of support from other software providers. Technology marches on and the sun has set on the Macintosh PowerPC architecture, at least for us.

And so, it is with no great sadness we officially drop PowerPC Mactinosh support from all future games, including future versions of Book I and Book II. Versions 1.05 of Book I and 1.04 of Book II will be the last that contain a Universal Binary application.

If you are one of the few Mac gamers who will be negatively affected by this decision, we sincerely apologize. And to the PowerPC processor that made the Mac what it is today, we salute you!

RPGCodex takes their turn with Book II

RPGCodex recently finished their time with Eschalon: Book II. The review has no score, opting instead to highlight a number of up and down points. The Codex is a notoriously hard-to-please group of enthusiasts and despite several criticisms, they ended their review with: ”…it’s still a pretty nifty game which every fan of the genre should try. And which fans of the first game can safely buy before even trying.” Fair enough.

Small email problem

Sorry to anyone who might have tried to email us in the past week- we made a change to a setting on our email server which reset our storage limits. Some of you have reported that your email to us was bouncing back because our inbox was full! It should all be fixed now.

Updated Mac version of Eschalon: Book I

We’ve just uploaded a newly compiled edition of Eschalon: Book I for the Mac. The game is still at version number 1.05 and nothing about it has changed, however if you are running MacOS 10.6.3 or higher and you are experiencing glitchy graphics, this new compile should fix the problem for you.

If you are not experiencing any graphic anomalies, this new version offers NO CHANGES from what you currently are running.

If you need this new version of Book I, email us your order info and we can activate a new download link for you.

Eschalon: Book II update to version 1.04

We’ve just updated Eschalon: Book II to version 1.04. A long list of fixes and tweaks can be found here. If you bought the game from us, you can download the newest version from the downloads page. Just uninstall your old version and reinstall the newest.

If you bought the game through Steam, Impulse, Direct2Drive or any other distributor, you’ll need to wait for them to update their versions sometime next week.

Alternate Purchase Method

Over on the Purchase Page we have added links at the bottom for an alternate way to purchase our games. For those of you who want to know: our primary order service is Plimus and they are generally very good. However, some people do have problems using their service, so we now offer our games through BMT Micro as well.

If you purchased your DVD of Eschalon: Book II during the first week its release, your disc was shipped out today! Expect delivery times of 2-4 days for most everyone in the U.S. and 5-10 days for our friends in far away lands.
