Re: Who is the most endearing character (any RPG)?

Alyx Vance. Half Life 2. Unquestionably. :)

How would you rate it compared to Eschalon?

Harder? Easier? More/less complexity? Story? etc...

Re: Lords of Xulima

Has anyone tried this yet? It's out now, and from all the reviews I've read, it sounds like EXACTLY the sort of thing we Eschalon types would go for... :)

Re: Sit down. We need to have a talk.

MOST preferable is distribution through GOG -- or at least, a GOG-style, electronic-distribution-with-redownload-capability-but-no-DRM type of setup. I agree that physical media are on the way out. I haven't yet used the DVD on my year-old high-end Maingear Potenza -- apart from testing briefly to m...

Re: nobody is going to like this camping suggestion...

ARGH! This is what I get for not checking the forum often enough. BW actually had the optional full automap checkbox feature I'd been wishing for; now it sounds like the naysayers talked him down. Oh well. I'm buying the game no matter what, so it's not about making a sale on MY part. I just really ...

Re: nobody is going to like this camping suggestion...

I'm all in favor of those little yes/no checkboxes at the start of the game. As many as possible. Let people who like a challenge play it the hard way. (Hunger, weather penalties, required inventory for certain skills...) And let those of us who like FUN play it the easy way... :) [And I'm STILL wis...

Re: Automapping feature instead of requiring Cartography ski

I don't see everyone's objection to free max cartography skill as an OPTION you could choose at the start of the game. You're not being required to use the feature, or even disable it -- it would default to being OFF, and so it would only affect those of us wimps who WANTED it. Assuming a decent sco...

Re: Automapping feature instead of requiring Cartography ski

I see this as something that could be easily added as an option at the beginning. Just like the "no food required" option, we could have the "I want decent mapping skills from the start without having to pay for it" option, and receive free max points in cartography at the outset...

Re: Playing it old school... Baldur's Gate Trilogy!

Yeah, I don't like the usage of the word "trilogy" here, myself. There's BG1 and its add-on "Tales of the Sword Coast". There's BG2 and its add-on "Throne of Bhaal". "Tales" takes place DURING BG1, but "Throne" takes place AFTER BG2 -- so the folks w...

Playing it old school... Baldur's Gate Trilogy!

Haven't played the Baldurs since they were new, but re-bought them through GOG, installed them plus BGT plus several other major fan mods, and am currently tearing through them...using online walkthroughs as references to make sure I don't miss out on anything. Having a total blast, getting to hear ...

Re: First Feature Cut

Just curious, BW: How much trouble would it be, leaving the main interface/playable region at 4:3, but allowing popup windows (player inventory, chests, etc) to be dragged outside the 4:3 region, for players with widescreen monitors? It would give us more real estate to work with for inventory manip...

Re: Need a new game

For what it's worth, I just completed Divine Divinity for the first time, and LOVED it. (Thanks GOG.com!) Frankly, it felt surprisingly much like an Eschalon game -- solid story, comfortable interface, good graphics. No restrictions by character type on which skills you get to choose from (though it...

Re: Auto-sort inventories

I think my preference would be: Tab 1 - Weapons & Armor (including Rings & Amulets) Tab 2 - Foods (& Water (skins)) Tab 3 - Potions & Reagents Tab 4 - "Valuables" (e.g. gems) & Miscellanea (e.g. Scrolls, (trainer) Books, maps, other documents (e.g. Citizen Writ), wolf ...

Auto-sort inventories

My first suggestion: Multiple inventory tabs, differentiated by item type. Armor/weapons always land on Tab 1. Reagents/potions always land on Tab 2. And so on. Now when I "take all" from a chest, things will automatically go "where they belong", and are easier to find. Quest Ite...

OK *SOMEBODY* needs to build a Basilisk-mobile for BW.

With headlights that turns other cars to stone.
