Re: Exception_Access_Violation - On Starting Game
I experience the same thing on the DirectSound option, which is why I initially tried changing the sound option.

Re: Exception_Access_Violation - On Starting Game
This happens to me without OpenAL ever being installed, with OpenAL installed, and with OpenAL uninstalled. No BitLocker or encryption of any kind. Completely stock English install of Windows 8.1 Pro, no non-English letters in any path names anywhere. Deleting the config file allows me to start the ...

Re: Exception_Access_Violation - On Starting Game
The lack of support on this topic makes me really, really glad I was able to get a refund for my purchase of Book III. Without being able to change to something other than DirectSound (since DirectSound, as it's implemented by this game, produces nothing but bleeps, bloops, and static through my spe...

Re: Exception_Access_Violation - On Starting Game
As a follow-up for this, playing the demo, it has something to do with the sound configuration. I can change any settings on the launcher, EXCEPT the sound options and the demo works fine. However, if I change the audio settings to anything but DirectSound or Null, the game will throw an EXCEPTION_A...

Re: Exception_Access_Violation - On Starting Game
Huh. I wonder if it could be that simple. I'll give it a shot.Mats01 wrote:Possible solution:
edit your eb3.cfg, at the top of the file, there's some comment like "; bla bla bla.."
change the ";" to "//"

Re: Exception_Access_Violation - On Starting Game
I've tried the above suggestions, but to no avail. I've tried changing the save game path to a few different locations with the same error appearing.

Re: Exception_Access_Violation - On Starting Game
Thanks for the tip, but I'd already disabled my antivirus/firewall/security software, no dice.

Re: Doesn't work with XP SP3
Look in the Events Viewer under Administrative Tools in the control panel and see if there is anything in there.

Audio Problem With Eschalon Book III in Windows
For anyone running into audio issues with Eschalon Book III in Windows using both DirectSound & FreeAudio, OpenAL is a 3rd option, and it is the only one I found to work for me on Windows 8. You can download it from here: https://web.archive.org/web/20130629072358/http://connect.creativelabs.com...

Re: A Suggestion Regarding "Minimum Hardware Requirements"
Nah, it won't see any improvement with a multi-core system, but, a quad-core processor with a clock speed of 2.2 GHz, only using a single thread on a single core, can use its "turbo" mode to clock that single core up to 3.1+ GHz while keeping the other cores quiet, so it can easily handle ...

A Suggestion Regarding "Minimum Hardware Requirements"
Regarding the "Minimum Hardware Requirements" and it listing a processor of 2.5 GHz. Don't you think it would be better to flesh that section out a little more? I'm assuming that clock speed listed is for a single core Pentium 4? There are plenty of newer processors that run more than one ...

Re: Doesn't work with XP SP3
To be fair, you're using a twelve-and-a-half year old operating system. Some things just aren't going to work anymore, my friend. I have to disagree with your rather flippant response, HMM. The engine for this game is ancient, well within Windows XP's functional lifetime. There is no reason it shou...

Exception_Access_Violation - On Starting Game
I started the game for the first time, went to play it, now when I try to start the game again I get a box that pops up titled "WINDOWS EXCEPTION" saying "EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION" every time after I click "Begin Game" from the launcher. What gives? I can't play the g...

Might be, but why would if impact Book III and not Book I nor Book II?
