Re: Notepad without paper and pencil

Actually, I found the in-game notation method to be quite sufficient. Everything that you could possibly have to remember, including locked treasure combinations and the like, is recorded for you in the journal. User-definable waypoints and flags would be an excellent inclusion to the game. As othe...

Yeah, I agree, but it also seems strange that I can't find any other bug report on it. Anyway, this subforum seems as good a place to report it as any, since I do have the linux version.

status after waking up is buggy

Not sure if this bug has been reported before, I couldn't find it by searching. Also not sure if it's linux specific or occurs in all versions. Doesn't seem like the type of thing that would depend on the OS, but I imagine it would have been reported already if it happened for everyone, and I couldn...

Re: appstub.linux signal handler 11 upon entering Blackwater map

Well, I tried again this morning on a fresh reboot of my computer and it crashed after spending 3 or 4 minutes exploring the map (western tanglewood). It doesn't seem to be related to where I am on the map. This is an annoying bug - I hope it doesn't turn up in any other squares. I managed to finis...

Re: appstub.linux signal handler 11 upon entering Blackwater map

There may be a few obscure memory bugs here- the next time this happens, try a fresh reboot of the computer and let me know if you are able to play any longer after you return to the game. I will try this tomorrow and let you know how it goes. (Though, I am a bit hesitant to put much time in when I...

Re: Obama or McCain?

But the speech you quoted indicates McCain wants Georgia in NATO. This would automatically commit US troops to defend Georgia against any invasion from Russia or anyone else. Isn't that the definition of a hair trigger? Didn't we learn our lesson about entangling military alliances from world events...

Re: Things you'd like to see in Book II User's Manual

You could always go into your word processing program and change the print option to grey scale or black and white. I've done that when my color cartridge was empty and didn't have money to replace it. Yeah, but the background will still print - just in grey scale. Still wastes ink and makes it har...

Re: Things you'd like to see in Book II User's Manual

I'd very much like to see the underlying math, or at least some/most of it, but I realize I probably wouldn't get that. I would also love to see some of the math, or at least a better description of how the skill and stat numbers play out - when I started the game I was very confused about how to a...

Re: appstub.linux signal handler 11 upon entering Blackwater map

I've been playing successfully for several days and I'm really enjoying the game (I have the full version.) I've completed all of the quests that I've found so far except for the one that requires that I head to Blackwater. The problem is, whenever I head to the map that contains Blackwater (I beli...

Seconded. Great fun so far, and I doubt if I ever would have found it without the Penny Arcade announcement.

Re: Linux save game location

The Greenhouse version had the saved location unhidden for testing reasons. It never was changed back to a hidden location, but that should have no effect on the game at at. Yeah, neither of those observations have anything to do with gameplay in and of themselves. I mentioned it because placing an...

Re: Linux save game location

OK, one final saves directory question and then I promise I will stop making posts in this thread :). It looks like the "sticky bit" is set on the saves directory and its subfolders - I thought this was only meaningful on executables, and even then had no effect in modern versions of linux. Am I mis...

Re: Linux save game location

OK, well, I can confirm that if I download the linux demo from basilisk instead of from greenhouse the saves get placed in a better location. So, probably the wrong version is up at greenhouse - hopefully there aren't any major bugs in the version up there.

Re: Linux save game location

Of course, from my end, this is probably easy to fix by just writing a wrapper shell script that moves the saves from a hidden location, starts the game, and moves them back after. But, seeing savefiles placed in a non-hidden directory in ~ makes me worry a bit about the developers' linux chops. See...
