Seems to run reasonably-well under Cedega, FWIW
I know that a native Linux version is coming out soonish, so this isn't terribly important, but Book 2 DOES seem to work under Cedega (engine 7.3.3), and works best when you choose the OpenGL renderer. It does have some issues when it loses focus - the screen won't redraw and you can't see your mous...

Re: [Resolved] Not working under wine
Ah, interesting, good to know. I'm actually on a 32-bit system myself, though, and I get the EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION thing. Edit: doy, I see above that you're on 1.1.42.
(and of course, it's sort of a moot point since there'll be a native Loonix client soon enough, but still.)

Re: Can anyone tell me what the algorithms behind the stats are?
Thats the THING, I don't give a flying damn how strong OTHER PEOPLE are... its not a competition... Well, I was replying directly to your "Otherwise the game becomes about 'who spends the most time researching the formulas on the internet'" in that case, which to me implies that you are c...

Re: Can anyone tell me what the algorithms behind the stats are?
Otherwise the game becomes about "who spends the most time researching the formulas on the internet". Um, I disagree strongly. How are Eschalon players even ranked against each other? I don't feel cheated that somebody out there has a better character than I do. Who's forcing you to do th...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
Ooh, you know - I bet that that could be some of the issue here; when I'm reading in the files, I wonder if I'm reading in too many bits for the integers, or something. Anyway, I got your email, I should have a chance to take a closer look in the next day or two. Thanks!Junon wrote:on Vista x64.

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
I'm trying to edit 24.map to get myself out of a grove of trees I loaded into the middle of. I can load the .map file that's in the data directory just fine but when I attempt to load the 24.map in the savegame directory, I get the error "Load Error...Error: The specified file could not be loa...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
This question of making items is especially relevant to me. I accidentally threw away the blue goblin key, and, uh....yeah. I'd really like to not restart this guy. Recreating a goblin key should be trivial - just copy one of your existing goblin keys and then change the name in the editor (and the...

Re: Can anyone tell me what the algorithms behind the stats are?
k, perhaps it's more common than I thought; I've actually never played any of those myself. Regardless, I stand by my opinion that the game is better for the opacity. :)Arrogancy wrote:xolotl, some computer RPGs that are explicit in pretty much everything:

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
-Normally you just type in the name, the category, sub-category, value, weight...Then the characteristics you want (+dex, etc...), and it places the item in your inventory and everything is fine yes? But when attempting that for spells...I get a game crash. That certainly sounds like it should work...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
Alright, so has anyone tried placing a spell in their inventory? I used a spell that was already in my inventory as a reference to what I was doing, so I copied the attributes of that one for the new one I wanted to put in my inventory (obviously with different stuff). However, in-game when I 'righ...

Re: Quick Question
And, of course, boosting up Cartography to have a perfectly mapped world...Then lowering it again to what it was. =P Heh - I've heard that that actually doesn't work so well - I guess that the map will slowly revert to the less-detailed version as you move around. I gather that's been fixed for Boo...

Re: Quick Question
Inside your savegame directory, there's ten "slotN" directories, where N refers to the number of the slot that you've saved (1 is the quicksave slot, 10 is the last one in the list). Inside there, each map that you've visited has three files... For instance, you start out in map 35, so the...

Re: Can anyone tell me what the algorithms behind the stats are?
This is unfortunate, because there basically isn't any in Eschalon, because none of the math is made explicit. Honestly, I don't understand this as a design decision; if you're going to throw the complexity of four stats, 24 skills, an origin, an axiom and a class at me, how does it simplify things...
