Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
Reminder: you DO have to download and install ALL of the applications/packages that xolotl mentioned. I was confused why there were two executables for gtk+ (2.12.9-1 and 2.12.9-2), so I downloaded and installed "-2" for everything. Yeah, it's a bit confusing; I just used the "-2&quo...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
Anyway I've got a Mac and despite getting PyGTK installed from darwinports.com I've got compilation problems. ... ImportError: No module named cairo There's Cairo, which is the C library which does the actual drawing work, and then there's PyCairo, which is the Python bindings for Cairo. That error...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
First off - are you talking about the OSX version? It sounds like you are; it'd be good to know for sure, though. Support on both Linux and Windows should be relatively hitch-free. Alright so apparently I first had to update Python to 2.6.2. Note that the app does work fine with Python 2.5 - if ther...

Re: Newbie starting Eschalon - please help out
I'll just add a couple more things to the general consensus here... 1) Is there a cap to the number of skills a player can know at the same time? No limit. Note, however, that overdiversification can really hinder you, especially in the beginning. Your proposed stats seem fine. On my first playthrou...

Re: Newbie starting Eschalon - please help out
* Sufficient cartography skill (4 or 5, difference being water) is vital if you want a map that will inform you. Maybe invest 3 if you want the extra point to build up your other skills. While I agree that having a level 4 or 5 cartography is real nice, you can certainly do with a much lower-number...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
Version 0.4.2 of the Editor is now available, by the way. There's been absolutely no updates to the character editor, so if you're only interested in character editing, this release Isn't For You. The map editor is still a tile-by-tile editor, so it doesn't feature any drawing functionality yet. He...

Re: Very Strange Bug
So I walk down the path to the fork in the road, and there are literally over 20 bees that have spawned there. That does seem excessive. :) Do you have a recent savegame from before they showed up? Also, it may not be a good solution, but you should be able to use my map editor to prune that number...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
A windows version would be really cool. It actually does run fine on Windows. The site has instructions for getting it going. There's three things to install (the last of which actually has three parts, so I guess there's five things to install, but they're all just "double-click-the-installer...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor
I had some bad experiences with dependency hell with python in the past. Let me know if you have issues... It shouldn't be too bad. If you're on Linux, most of it may even be installed already, and what isn't should hopefully be a package-manager call away. On Windows, there's just a few things to ...

Re: Savefile Character Editor
Saturday afternoon! Is there a better time to edit Eschalon characters and map files? I THINK NOT. It is with great relief that I announce to you the release of the Eschalon Book 1 Savefile Editor, v0.4.0 . There aren't too many enhancements to the actual Character Editor portion of the app, though ...

Re: I threw away a goblin key
Why is it other items are undroppable but this crucial item is not? What items aren't droppable? AFAIK, it's only torches that you can't get rid of... Anyway, as others have mentioned, there's ways around it. The easiest way is probably the Shadowmirk Level 3 trick, which you should be able to find...

Re: Savefile Character Editor
Actually, I have been meaning to ask this here for awhile: I'm curious what the game install directories are, and where the savefiles are stored by default, for the various platforms that Eschalon supports (including the Greenhouse vs. Basilisk versions, and different Windows versions, previous vers...

Re: Savefile Character Editor
I managed to navigate to the folder where eschalon_b1_char.py lives, and ran it, only to be told that PyGTK version 2.0 or higher is required. This is where I get stuck. There doesn't appear to be any Mac OS X version of PyGTK around (unless I know how to compile it from source files, which I don't...

Re: Savefile Character Editor
I made an attempt to gather all the files necessary to run this on my Mac (Intel, 10.5), but to no avail. I found MacPython 2.5, GTK, and pycairo, but I'm not sure I have everything, and I'm also not sure how to put them together if I do. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I assume that if you ...

Re: Savefile Character Editor
Outstanding... Thanks for the info and update. BTW, how well does this run on Linux? Fedora or Ubuntu? It runs fine on Linux - that's actually my desktop and development environment. I've only run it in Windows once or twice to make sure it works there. You guys do realize that any complaints on ba...
