Re: Cut-off sound effects with OpenAL / Buzzing with FreeAud

Thanks, I had that package installed, but there was no symlink named libopenal.so pointing at libopenal.so.1. After creating that link I got the options for OpenAL.
Bizarrely, now the FreeAudio option works just fine without garbling the sound...

Re: Cut-off sound effects with OpenAL / Buzzing with FreeAud

For me the sound is also completely garbled, but I only have the options to choose from "FreeAudio" and "FreeAudio OpenSound System". What do you need to install on a 64bit Ubuntu to get any other options?

Re: Will there be a build with lower glibc requirements ?

I suppose Debian Stable is a pretty good lowest common denominator. The current one, Lenny, uses 2.7 (http://packages.debian.org/stable/libc6)

The previous version of Ubuntu would probably also be a good system to compile on.

Re: An addition "Can't enter Westwillow" type issue

I'm not going to search the non-support forums because I don't want to see spoilers. You might notice that Jedi_Learner searched the non-support forums as well. Since this problem is of the support-type (hence this thread, in support) I think it's quite reasonable to expect it to be referenced in t...

Re: An addition "Can't enter Westwillow" type issue

Yes, searching the support forums for "Farrock" yielded no results that referenced this problem. Next time try the search yourself before you point people to the search.

Re: run eschalon book 1 on newer distributions

I'm running Debian sid, and it runs just fine here, without openal0: 3534: calling init: /usr/lib/libopenal.so 3534: 3534: opening file=/usr/lib/libopenal.so [0]; direct_opencount=1 dpkg -S /usr/lib/libopenal.so libopenal-dev: /usr/lib/libopenal.so So installing libopenal-dev might fix your problem.

Re: Book II CD or DVD

You must be American. That's the only people that think that anything that is not 100% pure capitalist has to be evil communism... I must take umbrage. You're right, my generalisation was way to broad. For that I apologise. I know plenty of Americans that have very sensible opinions. As a Dutchman ...

Re: Book II CD or DVD

I think that it's very important to make a distinction in this discussion between art that can easily be copied and art that can not. Art that can not easily be copied has no problem at all. If no-one wants to pay for your paintings, no amount of copyright protection is going to help you. The only a...

I always liked the way Angband did things, where attack speed is a function of strength and weapon weight.

Interesting discussion.

But that right-side up/wrong-side up only came into being after 1850, and only because someone though heaven was up there and hell was down there...

Maybe BW can put the ES2 one pointing to the right :p

Simply .eschalon-b1 would work just fine.
Or
.basilisk/eschalon-b1
.basilisk/eschalon/book-1/saves
.eschalon/book-1
.eschalon/book-1/saves

As long as it starts with a .

Re: Eschalon: Book I Version 1.05 FULL

I don't think that game save files fall into the category. Typically this is done for the sorts of applications which are installed system-wide, and which have a global config default in /etc somewhere, and then allow per-user overrides via hidden files and folders in the user's home directory. I h...
