Re: Sit down. We need to have a talk.

I don't think physical media will die off entirely because it is transitioning to the niche collector market. I think you should still offer physical media; just charge much more for it. Make it worth your while. The majority will buy digitally, but the few who insist on having a collectors item can...

Re: Support for Linux

I strongly recommend taking advantage of VirtualBox. Since VBox and various Linux distros are free, you can setup an effective testing pipeline. The only thing you cannot perfectly test is the graphics. The VBox display drivers are hit and miss, but you can at least verify that the libs are correct ...

I could rant forever about how terrible this blog post is, but I'll let you have it first.

Discuss.

Re: Getting hit WAY MORE than the percentage the game sugges

We know how random sequences work. We're pointing out that the overall distribution does not hold true. I was not complaining about 80% happening to miss 3 times; I was trying to point out that despite ALWAYS having 80%, I ALWAYS miss all 3 times. That is the issue. The point is that these occurrenc...

Re: Starcraft II $60 ??

The complaints about SC2 being "1/3 of a game" are completely unwarranted. The original Starcraft had approximately 30 campaign levels, which gave 10 to each race. In this new one, there are approximately 30 levels given to just Terran, and they are all much higher quality than the first g...

Re: Getting hit WAY MORE than the percentage the game sugges

This goes way beyond Eschalon games. I have noticed this issue in a wide variety of RPG and strategy games. Battle for Wesnoth comes to mind: it will claim I have 80% chance to hit, but I miss all three attacks; it will claim the opponent has 20% chance to hit, but I get hit all three times. In vari...

Re: Doesn't run on Ubuntu Jaunty 64b bit

Microsoft cuts of DirectX from its own customers. Windows XP caps out at DX9. Windows Vista caps out at DX10. Windows 7 currently boasts DX11. Meanwhile, more open technologies like OpenGL support the latest and greatest even on measly Windows XP with the latest drivers. Now, tell me why closed sour...

This does not really coincide with reality, unless you are suggesting that your character would drink the rain water. You can die of dehydration while swimming in a lake. :)

Hey now... I'm just not into that super heavy story... Story in any game is still crucial to everything making sense.

Re: I WANT MY MONEY BACK

I understand the frustration of difficult gaming, but you really want your money back? Due to difficulty??? You really HAVE been tainted by gaming of recent years. Frankly, there are not enough difficult games out there today. Companies have all adopted the "everybody wins" attitude.

Re: Doesn't run on Ubuntu Jaunty 64b bit

Ironically, this is the first time in a long time I was not a first-day adopter of Ubuntu. They have started rushing certain recent releases, and I am waiting for a couple months worth of patches before switching over. I also wait because the upgrade path is just plain fail. I much prefer a fresh in...

Re: Doesn't run on Ubuntu Jaunty 64b bit

with the OpenGL support that wraps the native driver you can even run the game at close to full speed of your primary system. Ew, no. LOL! I mean, he can if he wants. Generally, when I build something in VBox, I bring it out to my native system to run it unless I have a specific reason to keep it i...

Re: Doesn't run on Ubuntu Jaunty 64b bit

Rather than outright downgrade, install one of the older versions in VirtualBox! It's a great way to compile stuff. For instance, I benefit from VBox by having 32-bit Ubuntu there. That way, I compile 64-bit binaries in my "main" OS, and I can compile necessary 32-bit binaries in my VBox. ...
