I think that's the building that a trio of goblin Bombthugs spawn in, isn't it? If so, I suspect that plate was a trap, 'cause I remember a couple of those thugs blowin' themselves up real good for no apparent reason as I was entering the city. Got a good chuckle out of it, too. :) If that's not wha...

There are some C64 emulation sites around on the internet, and I'm almost confident that you'd even be able to find Pool of Radiance floating around somewhere (not a ringing endorsement, but it's the best I can manage :)). Even if your own copy of the game is no good anymore, I think it likely that ...

Heh... that's what I did in The Bard's Tale at first. I just mapped as if there wasn't any wraparound, and eventually I found out where things lined up and truncated my maps accordingly. And then I discovered a handy little spell called "Scry Sight", or SCSI in the spell-typing-in nomencla...

When I first played The Bard's Tale, I mapped every single square of that game. Loved it. The spinners were tricky at first, the darkness I got used to, the teleporters and the wraparounds gave me no end of grief, but it was fun. Today, even though I still have the maps, I don't use them. I don't ne...

This was my issue with the cartography skill as well... although in my case I "intuitively understood" the process to be more like an obsessive compulsive need to constantly draw in everything my character passed by, only sometimes he would have access to grey, brown, blue, and red crayons...

64MB ATI Radeon 8500 graphics card, 512 MB RAM, and a *cough* 300MHz Pentium 2 processor (cobbled the system together out of spare parts for fun; I wouldn't actually pay for a computer like this :D) I still like the graphics as they are. It's a bit slow at times, but I still get a pretty good framer...

Well, if food has a similar sort of relevance to the game as darkness does in Book 1 -- torch supplies, ToHit penalties, and dark enough that night time in the forest really is dark enough that resting really is the most sensible thing to do if you don't want to miss something important -- then I th...

So I finally broke down and played the game...

Originally, I was going to wait until I had a computer that actually met the minimum specs for this game, but, as is usual for me these days, I just wanted some sort of new game to play, and there was Eschalon: Book I sitting right there, so I went ahead and played it. All I can say is: Congratulati...

Heh. I'm actually less concerned with issues of stability and playability than I am with those of convenience. I've plowed my way through several absolutely bug-infested games before and had a blast doing it -- I'm enough of a nerd to enjoy fiddling with system settings and analyzing the behaviour o...

Regarding Patches

A few questions. Will the boxed version of the game be updated with the latest patch? Or will the base game remain static and players be responsible for downloading any patches that may be out? Ok, that's only two questions. The reason I'm asking is because I'm wondering whether I should wait until ...

The only way I've found to combat that "sense of disappointment" associated with games is to alter my own behaviour and expectations. Really, virtually any game that gets published has something redeeming about it. With ToEE, it was the best turn-based combat system I've ever seen in any D...

These days -- well, probably since the inception of the cRPG genre -- I've felt that games have simply had a different focus than what food and water might provide for a game, so they've usually ended up coming off as more annoying than anything else. The point of the game is to kill things in spect...
