I've noticed Armageddon Empires, another indie game, receiving considerable favourable publicity over the last month or so. I hope that Eschalon can benefit from the same upon demo/release.

It's definately available via abandonware sites, but not the biggest & most popular, which indicates that it is shovelware.

If you have not played Pools of Darkness either, then I recommend that to you instead (it's the sequal to Pool of Radiance)

Turn based all the way for me. TOEE was the best Fantasy style RPG combat engine I have ever played. .

Pure turn based for me too.

My favourite recent cRPG combat was also found in Temple of Elemental Evil. Good old school examples would be Betrayal at Krondor & Disciples of Steel.

Please guys, I've just come from the Oblivion forms, I've already had my recommended lifetime exposure to posts saying one or another game sucks. No need to criticise others suggestions.

It's highly unlikely that you have not played the Gold Box games such as Pool of Radiance & Pools of Darkness, but have you played the SSI Buck Rogers games for a different twist? There are two & they are both available from Home of the Underdogs.
