Re: Having a good reason to kill L. (major spoilers)

The theft issue is a big one. I tend to play thief/sniper characters, and that means I do tend to carry away whatever isn't nailed down. The only game I've seen which even tried to tackle the "selling the shopkeeper his own stuff" thing was Morrowind. And Oblivion had a simplified version ...

Re: Elderhollow Rebuilt

This town has clearly suffered a catastrophic event. Some of the buildings are burned out, others appear to have succumbed to neglect after being abandoned. You notice remnants of war lying about- rusted swords, dented shields, and fragments of bone... It's true that depopulation is catastrophic, b...

Re: Typos?

Heh, thanks - I was expecting a response more like "Do you have no life?" :D Particularly since the odds of these ever getting used for anything are pretty tiny!

That, plus, most of them are really anal and insignificant. :D

Re: Typos?

Here's an errata file I wrote, because I was considering making an unofficial patch for these things. Don't think I will, since it'd involve patching the exe, but here it is for reference anyway. These are current on the latest steam version: 1.0.5 I think. Where others have found an error, I've cre...

Re: Time played mechanism

I think of it more as a "you have extracted THIS much fun from the game!" counter. It's not 100% accurate, since if you die and reload, it doesn't count the time you spent between saving and dying. It also doesn't spend the time I spent hacking savegames and stuff :) Even without counting ...

Re: Having a good reason to kill L. (major spoilers)

I really really liked this choice in the game. I made sure to save, then went and killed her for the "shadey" guy - just to find out what she had. I discovered it was the most awesome sword in the game, and I'm a swordsman. I was so tempted . I checked on the forums: there is apparently no...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor

Found this in another thread: As long as no internal game information is being posted (such as charts or item lists) then I don't mind. Most people don't know how to use hex editors and if you want to risk corrupting your saved games to get a few stat boosts, that is your choice. You cannot use a he...

Re: BOOK I COMPLETE SPELL LIST (Possible Spoilers)

It's kinda obvious, probably: but "Dehex"'s description ("Removes any curses or hexes that may be plaguing the caster.") is perhaps a little misleading, in that it doesn't remove *any* curses: only those at or below the level at which it's cast. The descriptions of Cure Disease a...

Re: Elderhollow Rebuilt

So very cool and weird seeing Elderhollow looking so different :) I'm not sure I would want to play the game with this version of Elderhollow, though I'd probably want to install it and explore a little just for the fun of it :) For my tastes, the areas feel too clean and pefect. A small amount of c...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor

Decoding the .tre files Here's what I've got, which isn't much. I write ints as [NN] for brevity, eg "0x0A 0x00 0x00 0x00" = "[0A]". Anywhere you see [nn], I mean a 4-byte int. Each NPC has a .tre file named with the NPC's entity number. So Gunther (entity 66) has his conversati...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor

I'm pretty sure that for blitz-basic, platform-dependent differences in the exe will be at worst a minor issue. I've confirmed the same basic exe layout for E1 in Linux, Mac and Windows. The script below works to extract the files and strings for any of them. Differences between E1 and E2 are more l...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor

I just tried actually installing and running the character editor and noticed that... well... you can't actually use it. At least, not for what I intended, which was to give myself a bunch of skill books and see what changed in the save file when I read one. Far as I can tell, you can't just select ...

Re: Savefile Character / Map Editor

Bought E1 on steam a while ago, just recently started playing. Got quickly annoyed with it, so decided to hack the savegames to cheat. This is usually a bad sign: once I start hacking a game, it's running low on my playability meter, at which point it's not long left on my HDD. The exception is easi...
