Re: Anyone have any problem with...

I do not like this at all. Skills are handicapped before the skill-feats, which is why ppl rush to them. This way you have to pigeonhole your character. Why then use an open, flexible skill system if you're going to handicap flexibility? There has to be a better way. I suggest making skill feats onl...

Re: Dodge-the forgotten defense

Well, granted, you make good points. but only if magic = D&D magic. I always imagined magic needing no hand movements or components. only concentration and skill. I don't remember magic requiring anything in the way of gestures or components in eschalon either. And anyway, wear the armor without...

Re: Dodge-the forgotten defense

I'm not saying to gear it towards realism, I'm saying to gear it towards choice and maximum flexibility. I find it annoying when games go with 'archtypes' (ie monk/fighter/mage) by ARTIFICIALLY making their skills incompatible and forcing me to make the same as ever.. As in, 'armor interferes with m...

Re: Dodge-the forgotten defense

This is all so much d&d wash :> Armor was completely designed for mobility. NO warrior would wear armor that impedes mobility because they'd be uncomfortable fighting in it and know that they were are great risk (even the soldiers in IRAQ refuse to wear some kinds of body armor because they're r...

Re: Dodge-the forgotten defense

Um armor was made for mobility? Havwe you actually ever worn chain mail or plate armor? I have worn chain mail and trust me by weight alone it is not made for mobility. Dodging was not really the thing to learn when wearing armor, parry is as your arms are meant to be mobile, not your whole body. T...

Re: Wind factor

Um it's not like Eschalon is a turn based tactics game thing where it's sensible to have stuff like that.
It's a game where you find the exact spot where u can aggro a single enemy and then run away to a safe zone and kill him 1on1, then repeat.

well at least the whole end part of eschalon2

Re: Cartography - get rid of it

Freakin get rid of cartography:> Frankly I think it's silly to have a skill that is to basically rob the player of one of the most basic of basic UI necessities and give it back to him halfway through the game. Why not make a color bit skill where you only get 32bit color if you put 32 points in it ...

Re: Dodge-the forgotten defense

Just PLEAAAAAAASE don't make it a 'monk ninja' character where dodge is seperate from wearing armor.. it's stupid and not realistic either, since armor was always DESIGNED for mobility as well as absorption and deflection. Make it like it is now.. a way to completely avoid damage that is unrelated t...

Re: Just replayed the best RPGs ever made.. lessons to be le

I agree with the whole % chance thing. Fallout New Vegas did away with it now for Speech, Barter, etc in conversations and it makes way more sense. It is a mechanic from P&P that got mistakenly carried over into the world of computer games. I have a huge problem with the way F:NV handled this. ...

Re: Materials & Items Wish List

I hope that the item and material list will be based solely around the setting of the game. That's how it works in all the real atmospheric and great rpgs. For all you know it could be a jungle setting and then materials should be like giant beetle exoskeletons, special strong vines (of whatever nam...

Just replayed the best RPGs ever made.. lessons to be learne

Just replayed Vampire: Bloodlines with Wesps patch. probably the best RPG ever except Planescape: Torment (though roughly equal). Also, just played some more of Arcanum with the community patch Add to this Fallout2 and you have the worlds 4 top RPGS. What do they have in common that we can easily ob...

Re: My Impressions of Book II and suggestions for Book III

Ah, 2 more important balance corrections: 1) Dont give healer a wisdom based mana bonus. All classes are equal, except the healer who gets an EXTRA bonus, so it makes much more sense to pick healer and then take totally different skills. It'll be the same char, only with a lot more mana. Either remo...

Re: Temple of Elemental Evil

No real wonder, it's been made by the best RPG makers on the planet. The same ones who made Arcanum. Who also made fallout1/2 :) the true genius they have is the ability to make a setting. Most RPGs (eschalon sadly included) just have no atmosphere. That's because the writers attempt to put a '3d' s...
