As I've said before the demo causes my computer to completely lock up, but I think I've found the cause now. I use the intel driver, which used to use the XAA acceleration architecture. It has now switched to EXA as the default in the newest driver that I installed only yesterday. When I tried the g...

Why not follow the example of other commercial games and offer all clients for download?. And then I only mean the executable and everything that is platform specific. So that if you buy the windows CD you can still download the linux executable and play the game in linux too. That is for example ho...

My pleasure. I am hopeful that the Linux community enjoys the game- I am counting on many of you Linux fans to get the word out. It seems many Linux sites don't report on games (they take themselves too seriously I guess) and the few gaming sites expect everything to be free and Open Source. Have y...

Yeah, that is an obscure bug. I have been over that code a thousand times and can not find a reason for why that sometimes happens. The problem is that its truly random- if I could just find a common catalyst for it, I could have the bug stamped out in about 20 seconds. But, as it is, no one can fi...

The latest version seems to work just fine. I can't find anything to complain about.

The sound is working better now, but not without some tweaking. First I set the sound driver to OpenAL, and got an error saying that the sound device was busy. I tried to get OpenAL to use ALSA instead, but to no avail. But then I tried setting it to SDL instead, and it worked! So for those of you w...

I just remembered a possible cause for the tiling problem. I used to have a similar problem, but I solved it by specifying GL_CLAMP_TO_EDGE as the clamping mode. This was with C++ though, and I have no idea how to do it Blitz. In C++ it's like this anyway: glTexParameteri(GL_TEXTURE_2D, GL_TEXTURE_W...

Unfortunately it seems like Eschalon don't play nicely with other applications that use sound, so you will have to disable all sound-using things like aRts. Yikes, I have several dozen processes in my process table and aside from things like aRts, Kaffeine, and Amarok, I'm not sure which of them co...

I don't know how BlitzMax handles sound natively, however I do know that I can have it use OpenAL if I activate the driver at runtime. Does anyone have any experience with OpenAL under Linux and/or think it would help? From what I can see OpenAL also uses OSS as standard, but it's possible to make ...

BW, I think what Per was getting at is that the *path* is just fine...the users home directory like you have it now, but that the directory that you *create* to store that saved games in should be ".eschalon_b1_saved_games" instead of "eschalon_b1_saved_games". The addition of t...

Well, I've now completed the Runes of Avalon demo on my laptop, with no crashes or problems. RoA also played very smoothly, with no lag at all. From what I can judge it's not that much different from Eschalon if you look at the effects and stuff, so I think it's a bit weird that Eschalon is so slow....

I'm afraid I have some bad new too. After playing for a while on my laptop, the graphics gets completely screwed up and the computer freezes and I have to reboot it. The same thing happened when I ran the windows version with Wine, but then I thought that it was Wine's fault. Perhaps this is the sam...

PhilosophiX (and everyone else who have performance problems), perhaps you should tell us what your hardware is, to see if there's something common that might be the cause. As I said it's running really smooth for me, but I have an Nvidia card. ATI has historically had really crappy drivers, but fro...

It does not seem slow at all for me. In the options menu it rates my computer between 1 and 2. I use 32 bit color in fullscreen, with an E6600 cpu (Core2Duo 2.4GHz) and Nvidia 8800GTS videocard. I'm going to try it on my laptop soon too, that uses an integrated Intel X3100 videocard. As for the othe...

It seems to work fine in Arch Linux 64-bit with 32-bit libs installed. I haven't had time to test it so much yet, but it starts at least. I'll check back later when I've had the time to test it more thoroughly. Edit: I noticed that the save files and config file is in a directory called eschalon_b1_...
