Re: Newbie starting Eschalon - please help out

Swords 2 Light Armor 1 Spot Hidden 2 Skuldruggery 3 Lockpicking 2 Diviniation 1 Consider this: buying the first skill level costs only 100gp, while training it will cost a whole three skill points. Same applies for a book - it's most helpful when you use it to learn a skill, as that'll save you thr...

Re: "Special" Classes - Merchant, Cartographer, "Artful" Dodger

- Over the course of the game, he will receive 20% less overall combat damage than an equal player without the Dodge skill. That means 20% less resting, less health potions consumed, and lower costs for healing. This isn't strictly true - a player who didn't invest in dodge still invested those poi...

Re: New Basilisk Games Logo?

I dunno, I like the overall "crispy" look, and the outline around the basilisk, but I think the letters are better designed in the original logo. Namely, the bit around the i's is nifty, while the A in the new logo... just isn't that interesting. So, I'd say a combination of the crispy let...

Re: Will Book II run on older graphic cards?

Book I runs fine on even my Mac Mini, but I've no idea if Book II will do. I've got a PC with an ATI XTX1950, which I'd hope would cope, but would be a shame to not hear the music over the whining fans... As I understand, the new engine has been optimized and will work no worse than Book I did desp...

The really cool thing would be if someone from the new game referenced how faulty the old maps were. ;)

Re: * BOOK II COMBAT OPTIONS *

I like the idea in general, but I'm not so sure about the parry option. Namely, it looks as if it's "tied" to a particular situation too much, and there's absolutely no reason you wouldn't want to use it in such situations; in that case, parry is just another button you have to press befor...

Re: Beta Testing

The Mount & Blade model might not work so well here, primarily because Eschalon and M&B are two different types of games: while Eschalon is story-driven, while M&B is mostly sandbox. Because of that, M&B will have a far greater replayability and people will simply be more willing to ...

Re: Spore

To be honest, the game is nothing special. I only managed to get to the middle of the second phase before getting bored to tears (apparently, the last stage is the "real" game, but I don't have high hopes). The first phase is similar to Flow (mentioned above), ranking it up there with &quo...

Re: Eschalon Reviews

Maybe a good solution would've been for your character to keep some helpful items before he or she drank the amnesia potion. If you choose Magick User then you find some useful scrolls. If you pick Cleaving Weapons then you find an ax.) You didn't perchance miss the hollow treestump next to the sta...

Re: Things you'd like to see in Book II User's Manual

I'd very much like to see the underlying math, or at least some/most of it, but I realize I probably wouldn't get that. Item lists aren't necessary, nor spell lists (provided you can get the relevant spell information in-game), but knowing in advance what the sword skill does in comparison with the ...

Re: Book II Questions Thread

I do have to give you credit, though, for giving voice to an idea that, despite the fact that you've said you've seen it in other games, sounds quite unique and odd to me (since I haven't , myself, had the fortune of seeing this sort of thing, yet, in any game, at least so far as you've described)....

Re: Re:

For Book II, the level cap is 30. Levels 1-20 are the same as Book I, while levels 21 - 30 are "Elite Levels". I believe I read in another post about the possibility of importing your character from Book I into Book II. Would importing a lvl 20 character then cause you to "miss"...

Re: Book II design question

Finally, this could be a option at the start of the game, and players who opt to use it would get a better "end-game ranking" than players who don't. I think the idea is a decent solution for the problem, but I disagree with this particular bit - why make it optional? Because it's not fun...
