Crashed after I blasted the head Lorewitch with the Plasma Rod, but that may have been an existing bug (just a test - never tried it before).

Yep, Book I is now working. Progress!

However, Book II still crashes in exactly the same way. Hopefully, they just haven't gotten around to applying the patch there yet.

Just thinking out loud here, but I would think we would have to ask Steam for a refund, rather than expecting Basalisk to fund the replacement.

Just not sure how successful that would be given their poor response history...

Exact same error here on both Eschalon I and II running from Steam. Both ran fine under Snow Leopard. I also have Portal on Steam, and it runs fine, so your assumption that it seems to be something related to just Lion+Steam+Eschalon seems correct.
