Ironically SpottedShroom, you are definitely one person that I am looking forward to getting feedback from. TRP has technical elements that I feel you might have strong opinions on.
You'll see what I mean.

Re: The State of the Basilisk, Summer 2017
I'm just doing this to annoy you...
:) I know.
I've been thinking a lot about our "Core Fans" lately, like you PM. The new game is really taking shape, and boy-oh-boy, it is not Eschalon. I mean, I mentioned before that there is something inside that feels "Eschalon-ish" (maybe it's the core ...

Re: The State of the Basilisk, Summer 2017
Occasionally? Apart from Fathamurk can you give us some examples of when you've updated your games with new content?
Well, in this case it is currently 33% of our games that have had a significant amount of free content added. That should count as "occasionally". We'll see how well the next game ...

Re: What *exactly* are the differences between the classes?
I'll inject a comment by saying I've never really liked the idea of "classes", especially in a RPG that is a solo adventure. I don't like systems that say "you're a wizard, so you can't possibly use this bow" or "your a fighter, so healing skills are a complete mystery to you". I like building a ...

Re: a guide to setup eschalon book 1 on ubuntu 16.04 64bit
Great!! Glad it helped.
To anyone else that comes across this solution, it will likely work with all 3 Eschalon games since they all really use very similar engines.

CB - if you get a fix that works, make a new topic (separate from this one) that identifies the problem and gives a clear solution, and I will sticky it.

Re: Game crashes on startup (Windows 10)
Hmm, I'm out of ideas.
The only thing I can do now is offer a bounty: I'll give a free Steam code to our next game ("TRP") to whomever finds a workaround / fix that gets Eschalon (1,2, & 3) to run on the latest version of Windows. The workaround needs to work for everyone, not just your computer.

Re: Game crashes on startup (Windows 10)
Maybe. But, BlitzMax just rides on top of your OS and communicates via standard system protocols. The underlying code communicates with the filesystem just like any other piece of software, through the OS.CrazyBernie wrote: October 26th, 2017, 8:31 pm... it's possible the Blitzmax engine isn't friendly with this type of storage medium (?).

Re: Game crashes on startup (Windows 10)
The eb3.cfg gets dumped into the %APPDATA%\Basilisk Games\Book 3 Saved Games\ folder along with the save slots. If you delete it it'll act like a new install but that tmp folder seems to prevent it from doing anything else.
So the way it works is, when you play your game, Eschalon writes all map ...

Re: Game crashes on startup (Windows 10)
I know where the files were installed. I tried running the .exe file as administrator, but nothing changed. I don't think an .ini file was created. Is there another way to switch to openGL?
Um, no it's going to default for DirectX on a Windows machine unless it finds a OpenGL flag in the .ini ...

Re: Game crashes on startup (Windows 10)
Hmmm...Bernie, can you run the .exe. as Adminstrator, see if that fixes it? (EDIT) Oh, sorry I misses the part where you said you tried it.

Re: Game crashes on startup (Windows 10)
Book 3's engine is essentially identical to Book 2, so I don't think it is a compatibility issue.
I wonder if you could find where Steam installed the game, and run the .exe as "Administrator". It may be having a problem building the save-game folders or creating the initial .ini file.
