Re: Spell costs way too high.
Here's one thing I noticed: if you're going to attack a couple of mobs, then you can use a bought/home-made Potion of Fortified Mana which will cut all mana costs in half for 10 rounds. This is especially userful if you have a huge (200+) mana points reserve. In other cases it might be better to dri...

Re: Destroyer, x5! - Review/Walkthrough: The 5 Character Classes
Letting go of meditation definitely helps. I save each time I'm ready to level up so I loaded that latest save game and instead of putting more points in meditation (I already have 20 at level 6 or 7) I can concentrate on Arcane Elemental and Alchemy (which is almost at 15 now with the Brewmaster's ...

Re: Destroyer, x5! - Review/Walkthrough: The 5 Character Classes
Thanks for this amazing write-up IJBall, it has helped my a lot during my first games as a ranger and a rogue. I'm wondering one thing about your mage character though: even at level 16 you only have 3 points in medition. This means that even with 200 mana points and the druidic path you must be run...

Re: Eschalon Reviews
Here's a very small review: It's my experience that the fact that Eschalon is a single player non-cooperative game is a huge addition to the gameplay. The game plays completely different when you're a spell-slinging mage who needs to keep track of his mana, a bow-wielding ranger or a shadow-stalking...

Re: SPOILER WARNING! The chest in Whistling Cave
Keep in mind, I would be uber exicted to see more puzzles in Eschalon, but the steel puzzle pee'd me off too. I tried to look it up to, but to no avail. Why not relate the puzzle into something relevant to in-game information? It was. It was a thief's chest, but he couldn't spell. It was pro...

You can always have monsters follow you to town, or to other monsters, and have them help with the fight. So in a way, you do have followers

Re: Wish List for Book II {Compiled}
2) On the time/Quick Travel thing, I've thought about this issue, and I actually think I'd like to see it stay 'as is'. I've always just thought of Quick Travel as a kind of 'magic' that characters exploit (akin to a portal spell, without having to learn the Portal Spell!). Now, if people like, per...

Re: Eschalon Reviews
Cons: 1. For a caster heavy character, it's druidic or nothing... I wanted to take nefarious but magic was not affected by the axiom. 2. Saves for full magic damage -- throw me the half-damage bone... pretty please :-) I'm now going through the game and I also noticed that mage spells don't do crit...

Re: Eschalon challenge games (spoilers)
Indeed, one was killed with the portcullis nearby and the other with the keys that are on the top of the building. There's currently no official challenge for that so I'm not sure what counts as a kill and what not.

Re: Undergound Repository
Exactly. If you don't just kill the goblin but show him the amulet he will tell you what number it is for, even if you never talked to Lilith.

Re: Eschalon challenge games (spoilers)
I just finished the game making only two kills: the dimensional eye and the raptor (both using self-brewed demon oil). I didn't even have to kill the final boss: my hide and pick lock skills were high enough to just sneak behind him, walk through the door and continue on. It appears the portal is ac...

Re: Advices for a Rogue
This style of play is fun and challenging. You can't sneak past the Dimensional Eye in Shadowmirk, though. You might want to stock up on Demon Oil. Exactly. And as I noticed with the ranger of my first game, the Behold*woops*Dimensional Eye can see you even if you are hidden. Could be that I'm wron...

Re: Advices for a Rogue
It also depends on how much of a rogue you want to be of course. I'm currently going through my second game playing as a rogue, focusing on hide in shadow and move silent. So far I haven't killed anyone directly, I did use a portcullis to kill a certain goblin to get a certain key. I didn't spend an...

Command-Q doesn't quit the application
Although Command-Q is listed as a keyboard shortcut for the Eschalon program, it doesn't actually shut it down. It actually doesn't do anything. Also when I choose "Quit" manually from the menu, nothing happens. It would be great to have this actually work in case of having to quit the gam...
