Re: Obama or McCain?

Russia is also an ally. Or... they're supposed to be. (They're also the second largest exporter of oil in the world.) Certainly, placing missiles bases in Poland and the Czech Republic doesn't help if you want stable relations with Russia. South Ossetia is about as much Georgian territory as Georgia...

Re: Eschalon Reviews

One thing first: In the notes-written-to-amnesiac-self, I wasn't thinking Memento as the reviewer on Gaming Nexus was . . . I was thinking Kurt Vonnegut's The Sirens of Titan . The notes-to-self were not really an original conceit, but in a way it made a nice sort of tribute, even if I'm the only on...

Re: Notepad without paper and pencil

I was actually referring to being able to place notated flags on the world map, not on the playing area or on the screen map for any of the areas (although duplicating them onto the area map would be nice, too). Being able to expand the world map (and provide greater detail) might also be nice. As i...

Re: Obama or McCain?

And by the way, Necromis: Georgia began this whole incident by invading South Ossetia. Russia responded in the usual iron-fist manner that it uses to deal with troublemakers. Saashkavili is the warmonger, not Russia. Please get your facts straight before you post your rants.

Re: Notepad without paper and pencil

There's a Quest Journal, but that's not necessarily sufficient. I believe Divine Divinity (I've played only a little of the game so far, haven't gone back to it yet) employs a system where, when you pull up a map, you're allowed to place flags on the map and add notations to them. That exact system ...

Re: Sealed barrels, "unknown" items

I think the game also notes this in the "tips" dialog box, but maces are supposedly the best to smash with. Actually, when I started off I was using my sword to smash barrels with, and the sword would slowly deteriorate.... I soon switched to a mace, which I only use for smashing barrels, ...

Re: Making Money from Book 1

Yeah... honestly it's difficult for me to speak for the gaming business because I haven't familiarized myself enough in that area. So I'll just move on to the matter of book publishing (and maybe Basilisk can enlighten us about any similarities... I'd be very interested to know). Now... since I'm a ...

Re: Making Money from Book 1

Well, how much business is actually gained from these sites? Ethically I find myself disturbed by websites that seek to profit off of other people's hard work by making themselves an intermediary. And when gamers and developers participate, it serves to perpetuate the system. I see this in the book ...

Re: games really are for guys

Well, it's hard to add to Elstyr's response, but I suppose I could add that there seem to be a fair number of successful games that not only feature female characters (appropriately attractive, of course, to also please male players) but also seem to be designed with a female audience in mind... The...

Re: Great Free Software

This is one heck of a useful thread. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any good, free programs that will allow you to arrange flash animations? I know they're out there, I'm just too lazy at the moment to do an exhaustive websearch for free programs and then going through the trouble of analyzing the...

I think I can go with some Eschalon II underwear.

Think Basilisk Games can hook me up with that?

Ugh. If there's one time-frame I hate more than any other time-frame, it's the 6-8 week time-frame.

At least make it 5-9?

Re: Book II Questions Thread

Rune: So, this would be sort of like an archaeologist finding an entire skeleton? If you get the whole thing in one go then your receive more acclaim? I suspect this would necessitate having full sets of armor that only work at optimal capacity when matched with one another. I don't know... I don't ...

Yeah, exactly: It's called acclimation, for chrissake. And the player shouldn't feel pressed for time to explore all the options and opportunities that a game has to offer.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to your review.

Re: Eschalon Reviews

Avv: I do agree that some skills seem to have been neglected. Dodge, for its minimal gain, did not seem very useful to invest in. Move Silently doesn't seem useful since the gamer's intention, I assume, is to find as many opponents as necessary so you can kill them and boost your XP. I'm still not s...
