Eschalon and mandriva 2009

Eschalon worked fine in 2008 but in 2009 it does not.
Music plays beautifully, but where the opening sun scene rises to see the knight standing there only a dot (nothing else) appears, which rises jerkely to the the top of the screen. Then the launch pad appears. as you pass you pointer over (again moving very jerkily) the choices highlight, but no affect occurs when you click on them.

Only thing to do is close the window with the x button at top right of window.

I liked the game. in 2008, and would like to play it in Mandriva 2009.
I had been planning to purchase book 2 but now I don't know.

I would look at the video drivers. What version were they in 2008, and what are they in 2009?
