Wierd : Sound disappeared on Ubuntu 9.04 Jaunty : Solved

Hi guys,
Well after running the game successfully for many times, today the sound decided to stop working.
I think it's an update in my 9.04 which caused it to stop working. Tried killing pulseaudio ( didn't help ) tried changing winecfg audio settings ( didn't help ) , rebooted ( didn't help ) etcetc...
Finally I decided to run Eschalon as root once, Poof ! Sound back
Then I ran it as my normal user again, and tadaa.. sound is back !?
Very strange, but if you run into this problem them maybe it will save you some headaches.
