I'm curious to understand what it means when an attack is said to "glance off". Is this just another way to tell you you missed, to mix it up a bit?
Does anyone know what the mechanics of this are?
What does it mean when an attack "glances off"?

A "glance" is a miss within 5% of being a hit.

Thanks for the info!

And your armor is working!

ahhh. I had thought that it indicated that they had hit but failed to do any damage.

I think what BW is saying is that it's within 5% of a hit that would do damage.Rowanas wrote:ahhh. I had thought that it indicated that they had hit but failed to do any damage.
IOW, the "glancing blow" is technically a "hit" - it's just a non-damage inducing hit...

What got from his explanation was that you still missed. Say, rolling a 43 on a ToHit of 39. You missed, but not by much.
Hmm... if you have 95% ToHit, does that mean you can only get hits and glancing blows?

ah... Internet lingo.
It was ages before I finally learned that FTW was not composed of the same words as WTF.
I still cry out my original misinterpretation in place of the actual meaning. It amuses me.

Basically it almost hit you but not quite. It does liven things up a bit to show the close ones like that.
Considering the amount of armor I sometimes wear, perhaps it glanced off... my ring?
