Can't decide if I should buy

Post by microbiotic »

I see people comparing this game to Baldur's Gate, which is pretty amazing!

From the demo I can certainly see that it's incredibly well made. Really nice graphics, sound music, and it plays really well too. (This is made by one guy?!)

However I am very picky when it comes to combat, and it's that which I'm not so sure about. I always like to play as a pure Mage. It is turn based but it disguises the turns very well. All I wonder is if the game actually provides really difficult and challenging battles later in the game? It's hard to tell from the early days of the demo. I basically just run around pew pew pew with my attack spell and I can heal myself too. It kind of reminded me more of something like Diablo than of Baldur's Gate.

Although, I looked up the spell list online and there looked like a good number of exciting spells. So I'm not sure sure. Will there be some really epic battles against dragons and things, that require the use of buffs and debuffs and pets and damage over time etc.?

If not I might just play through Wizardry 8 again.

Thanks!

Trust me, you will NOT regret buying this game. I'm a level 13, so I'm not very far, but I still have enjoyed this game more than any other medieval game, and I've tried quite a few of those. Again, you won't regret buying it and you'll regret not buying it.

Lol ok thanks. It's pretty cheap so I think I'm just going to give it a shot anyway. I couldn't drag myself away from the demo so I guess that's as good a sign as any. And everyone seems to love it...

I guess that's just the way it is these days. If you want a proper RPG, you have to find one of the few companies left that still has a soul.

Mages and mage/healer characters have the easiest time with this game once they can locate scroll with the appropriate spells. I have had games where I just couldn't get one spell that would make things easier.

Book 2 has faster regeneration of mana than Book 1 which makes the big difference.

Mages are definitely easier in Book II than in Book I. Faster mana regeneration and better scaling of spell effects makes them very powerful, but there are still some really challenging fights, and you'll be driven crazy in the add-on dungeon (not required to complete the game, but a great challenge) trying to get out as much of the loot as possible. Even with Ogre Strength, it's impossible to get it all.
