If you get caught stealing from a merchant, they start attacking you. Is there a way to make things right so we can use them as a merchant again?

1. Start over. (not a good choice)
2. Find or buy (from someone else) a potion of Charm. (or whatever it is called, memory fails me today) and throw it at the enraged person. It will take a while for them to calm down, so be careful.

You can use the charm cloud potion or the Charm spell. The only danger is if the person then starts attacking themselves, they may manage to kill themselves before the potion wears off and they go back to normal, not angry shopkeeper.

Fortunately, it doesn't always happen, but it can be really funny when it does.

If you Toxic Element a friendly npc, charm him and he somehow lives through all of that, would the npc still be poisoned but not angry at you?

Toxic Element only lasts a few rounds. I don't think I've ever seen it do more than 3 damage.

heh. steal from them, make them angry, lead them to another part of the city, and then use the charm

Well that's useless I suppose.

Don't try in Port Kuudad unless you want to spend the entire day charming guards!
