I am currently stuck on Talushorn level 3 - at least I see from earlier post that i am not the only person to run into trouble here - i think I have a save that i can go to so that I can try again

What version are you running? I'm assuming you mean that you failed the dragonel puzzle and the exit gate shut and didn't reopen after you killed them all. That implies to me that you're not running the current version.
