CrazyBernie's Indie Give-Away Starts Here!

Post by CrazyBernie »

*** This Give-Away is not endorsed by Basilisk Games, or any other Developer ***

What's going on here??
Not much... just giving away a bunch of games!

Whoa, so you're going to hook me up with a copy of Black Ops?? Sweet!
Um... no. I'm giving away a slew of indie titles... no big name developers here.

So what are you going to give me?
Well, some lucky winners will recieve one or more of the following:

World of Goo
Trine
Minecraft (For those in the know, these were purchased pre-beta)
The Humble Bundle #2
Plus a secret, special prize! As if there weren't enough!

Note: I purchased the Humble Bundle 2 gift codes prior to the 22nd, therefore they were upgraded to have the previous Humble Bundle included as well. That's 11 games in the Humble Bundle alone!!

Some lucky... what do I have to do to win?
Well on the given day of a particular give-away, I'll make a post here in the forum that you'll just need to respond to. In other words, you'll have to be a member of this forum and be prepared to make a post. Also, you'll need a Steam account, or will need to create one to redeem World of Goo and Trine. So if you think Steam is the Devil incarnate... then you'll probably not want to participate.

Post? What do I have to post?
Nothing special. I'll ask some sort of question, and you'll just post an answer. Technically your post is your entry- the answer won't really matter, but I'll ask that you keep things in the spirit of the give-away and post an honest, in-context response.

So how are you going to pick a winner?
Winners will be chosen at random.

Wait a second... why are you giving all these "free" games away? Are you a pirate?
Arrrrrrr, ye got me matey.... not. These games were all purchased by me as gift codes for the sole purpose of giving them away. See this post for more clarification.

So how many games are you giving away, exactly? How many people are going to win?
There will be fifteen winners... three every day for five days.

The handout looks like this:

Day 1 - *** Complete ***1
Prize 1: World of Goo - Quann (Redeemed)
Prize 2: World of Goo & Trine - AK_Marty (Redeemed)
Prize 3: The Humble Bundle #2 - Blitzrunner (HB URL Sent)

Day 2 *** Updated ***
Prize 1: World of Goo - ManusDei (Redeemed)
Prize 2: World of Goo & Trine - Sir Funk (Redeemed)
Prize 3: The Humble Bundle #2 - Kreador Freeaxe (HB Url Sent)
Bonus Prize 4: Minecraft - fudgemaster (Redeemed)

Day 3
Prize 1: World of Goo - RezoApio (PM Sent)
Prize 2: World of Goo & Minecraft - IJBall (Redeemed)
Prize 3: The Humble Bundle #2 - BasiliskWrangler (HB URL Sent)

Day 4 - Give-Away-The-Farm!
Prize 1: World of Goo (4 Copies)
Prize 2: Trine (2 Copies)
Prize 3: Minecraft (4 Copies)
Prize 4: The Humble Indie Bundle (2 Copies)
Prize 5: Eschalon: Book II (3 *Physical* Copies!)

Cool dood! How'd you get BW to donate some copies??
I held his keyboard hostage!!

That's pretty awesome of you to give away all of these games... there's gotta be a catch, right?
Actually, there is. Once you win a prize, that's the only prize you get. So you have to decide... should you take the chance and submit for every prize, or wait until the prize you want shows up before you throw your hat in? Will you hold out until the Secret Prize is announced, or take what you can get?? Choices, choices... not unlike your average RPG!

At minimum, you'll need to provide an email address to receive a prize. This can be communicated through PMs, so don't worry about your information being displayed anywhere. All I will reveal is the usernames of the winners, on a post below this one.

Where's the legal speak you spoke of previously?
All of these games are the intellectual properties of their prospective owners. Click on the game links above, and you can navigate to the developers' home pages for more information about the games and their creators. I'm not giving these games away at the behest of anyone but myself... so none of them are involved. It's just me, myself, and I, giving away some great games made by some great people (I might have a little help with the Special Prize, but those details will emerge later).

Also, if you're under 18, you need to get permission before making a submission, as one of the games in The Humble Bundle is a survival horror game and rated 16+ by PEGI and 17+ by ESRB. Of course, if you don't win the Humble Bundle, it need not apply, but you should ask anyways.

Great. When does it all start?
Day one is currently "scheduled" for Tuesday, December 28th. I'll post the first question around 10am Central Time (UTC -06:00), give or take a couple of hours. The plan is to have five days in a row, but I'll give myself a little leeway by not setting it in stone. The winners will be chosen before the next posting on the next day, and be revealed about the same time as next question.

Woohoo!
Feel free to post any questions/comments/concerns below!

One more thing...

In the event that a prize winner already owns a particular title and so wishes it, I can re-pick a winner for that specific gift.

Example:

Someone wins the Prize that includes both World of Goo and Trine. It turns out that person already owns World of Goo on Steam, and is unable to redeem that game.

Option 1: I can pick a new prize winner to recieve World of Goo, thereby increasing the number of winners, and spreading the love!

Option 2: I can gift World of Goo to a specific person of the original winner's choosing.

The only instance where this wouldn't work is with the Humble Bundle, as I cannot split up the games in that bundle.

Happy Winning!

Some additional clarification:

If you "submit" for a specific day and do not win a prize, you will still be in the running. This means you won't need to answer a question for the next day... unless you want to.

So it's possible that someone who submits on Day One to win the final prize on Day Five... but keep in mind you can only win once! Unless of course you win a prize and someone else who wins a different prize decides to give you that one game you wanted but didn't get.... 0_o

Well Day 1 is almost up, and there's all of 4 entrants... 0_o And here I was looking forward to pulling names out of a hat...

Maybe everyone's holding out for Minecraft and/or the Secret Prize... o.o

I may increase the length of the next "Day" to 48-72 hours... just to give people time to see/respond to it.

I'd guess it's probably a combination of a not-extremely-active-forum-at-the-moment combined with folks who already have the games (like myself). I'm glad that this is going on though, perhaps entries will pick up for the later ones! :)

Well to that I can say this: I can on request send the gift passes/codes to whoever you want... so if there's someone you missed out on getting a Christmas gift, and you want to make up for it... ^_^ It'd keep in spirit with the whole point of the give-away.

Round 3 will start tomorrow, and as with Round 2 will run for 2 days. Somewhere between the end of R3 and the start of R4, I'll announce the "Secret Prize" that's up for grabs in R5... Partly because I may rearrange the prizes to include the "Secret Prize" in R4.

Good luck!

I have all of these games (well not all from the Humble Bundle 2) but cool thread man. I did something similar on the Grim Dawn forums a while back for a free copy of King's Bounty I had.

Next time you you do this you should make people work for the free games though! Something like a "guess the screenshot" game or something :P

Anyways *thumbsup*
