No Walking Animation

Post by raigan »

hi,
Does anyone else have a non-animating player sprite? I've tried starting a new game with both genders, and each time the player just "glides" along the ground -- no walking animation is played.

The demo didn't have this bug, which seems really strange.

thanks,
Raigan

I've got the exact same thing...on two different computers. One Vista (Yeah, I know...) the other Windows 2008 Server R2 (Yeah...again...I know...)

You must have the roller-blades option installed....

Seriously though, make sure you have all the latest drivers and Windows updates, try switching between OpenGL and DirectX. I never saw any report of this in the beta, so it's certainly something new.

As Bernie said: this never came up once in all the hundreds and hundreds (thousands?) of hours we've tested since last year. We've also tested on dozens of different computers, each with a unique configuration.

Hm, that's pretty weird; I've tried all three renderers and it happens with all of them. It definitely didn't happen in the beta though!

I'm running an NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M in a Lenovo W510 with the latest drivers. I've tried it on my T61 as well with the same issue. Game still works fine, but I feel like I'm moonwalking everywhere. Oh, and I get splashes in the water.

The walking animation is cycled via a system timer, which keeps it timed correctly regardless of your computer specs.

Have you rebooted your system recently? This should reset the system timer.

Are you running some obscure CPU or Motherboard? Certainly Windows 2008 Server R2 is not a system we were able to test on here in the labs- could this OS have some evil influence on the system timer?

BW -- Rebooting did the trick. Well, let's be honest -- my system crashed but it was unrelated to the game. Gotta love the old Microsoft "Try rebooting and call me in the morning" support trick...

Oh, and by the way, loved the reference to Survivorman...Stroud Selton...Not Les Stroud...

I'll try rebooting and see.. I'm on an Acer Travelmate 6592 with XP SP3. I haven't rebooted in a few weeks so that could be the problem :)
