Character Editor and Free Skill

Post by Kreador Freeaxe »

So, I managed to be a reasonably good boy and actually do three hours of work before I opened my Eschalon Book II download to start my first play-through. I rolled a few times and came up with a decent set of stats (all 10+), selected the various other elements, and then selected that I wanted to play a Ranger. My free skill came up as Arcane: Divination. That's odd, I thought. Did I click Healer by mistake? Nope. Title said Shepherd. Clicking Healer changed the title, but not the free skill. I clicked through the others until I noted that Rogue gave me the free skill of Weapon: Bow. Interesting. So, to play a Ranger, I have to select a Rogue. Hmmmm.

The free skill is completely dependent on your Title- which comes from your Class and Axiom choices. A Virtuous Ranger is a Shepard- a restorer of life. It was deemed that Divination should be your main skill. If you were a Nefarious Ranger (a Blighter) your free skill is Cleaving Weapons such as an axe, used to ruthlessly destroy both woodland and enemy with ease.

Interesting. What kind of Ranger gets a bow? ;-)

I was joking. I figured out that any Ranger other than Virtuous or Nefarious gets the bow skill. I make liberal use of smileys because I find my humor a bit dry when posted in text form. ;-)

A dragon would be less of an Airborne Ranger and more of a Flying Fortress.
