playing on multiple machines

I enjoy playing the Eschalon series of games. Usually on my desktop PC. However, lately my work requires a fair amount of travel where I have a laptop. I can install the game on each machine and I was wondering if there was an easy way to move my character and game progress between two computers?

That will definitely work - click on the version number on the main menu screen to find out where your saved games are kept. I also believe that the cool kids are using Steam to sync saved games between devices, but I prefer to buy direct from the developer. Sometimes Steam's modifications cause trouble.

Personally I don't care for Steam and won't use them or their system.
