I went through the illusionary wall behind the chest. At the two-way gates I dropped a keg by the switch. Went through the gate then turned around and blasted the keg.

bypassing two widget-gates:

there is a place where you can use a keg to remotely control a lever. This will bypass two widgets. This place is near to the corpses grave yard. You need to first pass through a fake wall next to the box for the glass diamond.

I never used the powder keg to bypass the lever by distance, I used it to demolish the gates themselves =)

Portcullises, in each of the three games, game be demolished by placing a powder keg under it when open, and triggering the lever that closes it.
Unless we're talking about different gates though, yes - they can be destroyed.

I doubt it's right as in Book 1 you can't pick the powder kegs. But ok put it under the gate opened and close the gate that is the trick, thanks for the explanation.

You're right - I realized that shortly after I posted it, but didn't bother going back to edit my post as with the upcoming remake of Book I on the Book III engine, you will, and therefore will be able to use the same strategy. I do wonder though, if that's going to ruin any puzzles or barriers that were supposed to be impassible in Book I.
