Stuck - looking for a clue

Post by sjaffe »

I don't want any spoilers - I just want a hint or a clue as to how to proceed.

At the moment, I have explored all I can. If I go to the east I get slaughtered by Goblins - so I'm probably not high enough level to go through that area yet. If I try to go north over the river, I get slaughtered by those blue sentinel things that appear to be immune to everything. There's obviously another path I haven't found.

Here are the quests in my journal:
1. The Blackened Bone Tavern
2. Baptism in Fire - from what I gather, I need to do this one before the one above. I need a Sigil of Fire. There's none to be found in any of the locations I've been to so far.
3. The Meaning of the Note - from what I can tell looking at other boards, I need a book to complete this quest that is nowhere to be found. If true, this is bad design - anything that is needed to complete a question should not be a random appearance item - it should always be available.
4. A Tough Nut to Crack - this requires getting to the Astral Range. I've found no way to get there
5. The Curious Case of Edgar - this requires getting to Wanderer's Glen. I haven't found any way to get there.

I have this feeling that I'm stuck because I don't have the book that only appears randomly. But, I might just be missing something.

Again, I don't want spoilers - just a hint. I don't want cheats either. But, if I'm right - that I'm stuck because the thing I need only has a random chance of appearing, that's really bad game design.

It might also help to

This book can be found very near where you'll need to use it, though I had also found it randomly and sold it prior to getting to this point.

Moonrise is larger than it seems. Some people make a grave mistake by not exploring.

There are two fixed locations for the book in Old Moonrise and Mirkland. You can sometimes buy it in Moonrise and find it as a random treasure.

The first time I found it, read it, and sold it before realizing it was part of the puzzle. Then I had to hunt for an old save game to figure out the clue.

Have you explored every location west of Rockhammer?
I think so.

There are some areas of Moonrise I cannot get into like part of the Temple, and the locked door in one of the stores that I can't get into without committing a crime and picking the lock. But, other than that, I think I've been everywhere.

Well from reading other boards, I know the name of the book. I've not seen it anywhere. I've been to every shop that sells books that I can reach - Rockhammer, Moonrise, and the woman near Seahaven. I haven't found it. It also doesn't seem to be anywhere near where I need to use it, unless it's on the other side of the river that's protected by those invincible sentinels.

Ok, I give up. Where are those fixed locations? I've gone back and checked everywhere I can get to and I don't see it anywhere in Moonrise or Mirkland.

neither the BOOK nor the sigils are random. they are in same place every time, and I found them just by looting every container on every map.

I obsessively explore every nook and cranny. when I got that quest for baptism of fire, I already had the ring. when I needed the book, was on fast mode and had not yet searched moonrise but an easy, no locks picks search found it. it is not random loot it is always there in same place.

you should goto mirkland before goblins.

also, have you learned to use powermodes? finesse? hit left shift.

I found a way into the graveyard by doing what people do in games. I opened every barrel, opened every door, went into every house I could, picked any lock I could get away with. I don't recall if door was locked.

but you don't have to find graveyard. there are numerous sigils of fire and like I said there are 2 available to you already and they are not random

the book is in old moonrise.

the easiest sigil of fire is
[+] SPOILER
Seawarden's Guild - body near the gate
it is a ring.

I believe you are very definitely wrong. I've opened every lock and searched every nook and cranny I can get access to including through locked doors after picking the lock. And there is no sigil of fire in Seawarden's Guild.

I don't know - maybe on PC versions it's fixed but in the Mac version it's not? But I have checked everywhere I can get to - no book, no sigil.

at 34,92 in south boglands there is a Corpse (disease chance) with a Silver Key, Hemp Jerkin, Sigil of Fire.

if he no longer has loot, you found the ring and sold it, or stuck it in a chest. or threw it away.

in the basalt dunes there is a clam with a sigil of fire. it always has one.
[+] SPOILER
49,182 Giant clam: Arm Bones, Pearl, Sigil of Fire
in the eldercloak forest there is a locked gate, and a few hostiles, and a puzzle, and in
a tightly sealed ceramic vessel (a blast required) is a Sigil of Fire

all of these can be done before you get to moonrise or right after.

you don't need the book snows of may to solve the puzzle to get into the witch HOUSE. the snows of may books are in old moonrise (where you have not been) and in mirkland (you take a raft from southern beach)

1.Blackened Bone requires to complete a simple fetch quest to the rangers glenn
2.I`ve found 3 Seals of Wisdom before unlocking Old Moonrise or passing the river.
Also, I`ve been able to buy at least 2 in the shop.
3.The book has 2 scripted locations. I`ve also been able to buy one in the shop, before even getting to Moorise.
4&5 - available after getting north.

It`s impossible to get stuck in this game if one "explores everything". You just didn`t explore.

It`s probably the new gamers generation, who are just used to linear qte-bugged casual games, that feed them everything by spoon. "You picked up an object! Achievement unlocked! 10000 GP and XP granted!"

I just love people who make assumptions like you do... Yes, I explored. No, I'm not a "new" gamer - I've been gaming for many, many years and have played many similar games including the original Baldur's Gate.

I'm done. People can reply if they want but I'm done. The game is bad enough - I don't need to deal with people who make false assumptions.

Buh-bye.
