Baptism in Fire glitch? (Spoilers)

So, on my first trip through Moonrise, I picked a lock in one of the buildings and found my way to a cemetary with various clickable headstones. (One of them said something about me being a cheater - was that supposed to be inaccessible? If so, there's an error in the map file, because I was able to walk right over. The lock I picked wasn't too difficult.) One of the headstones rotated and said that "something changed," which seemed to be a secret passage over in the temple.

So I headed over there - when I got to the pool area, a bunch of flames shot up, but they did no damage when I walked over it. I'd assumed at the time that it must have just been a psychological test of some sort, that maybe the water was negating the fire damage or something. So I made my way over to Old Moonrise, etc.

Then, eventually, I finished up the quest to deliver the letter to the Rangers, came back with the codeword, and received the official "Baptism in Fire" quest. By that time, I had a second Gildedmoon Pendant, so I had wanted to get back down to the vault. I talked to the priest on the way in, who blew me off because I didn't have the proper ring yet. But then when I got back to the waterflame room, the "Baptism in Fire" quest completed!

So, possible glitches:
1) I was able to get to the cemetary pretty easily. Are those headstones supposed to be inaccessible?
2) The flames in the pool didn't harm me, even though I didn't have the ring in my possession. Are the flames in the pool only supposed to Not Harm You if you've got that ring?
3) The quest completes even though I haven't actually gotten the requisite items.

Of course, #2 and #3 stem more-or-less directly from #1, so that might be the actual main issue.

Not that I'm complaining (the extra XP put me into the next level, after all), but it seems like that quest and gravestone interaction might be glitched somewhat. I haven't gone back to the priest yet, to find out what he'll say now that the quest is officially completed.

I don't think so - I did exactly as you did in my first playthrough, and got to Old Moonrise "the back way" just the same way.

I think those flames are "decorative" regardless, and do no harm no matter what.

But hadn't you gotten the requisite items (just out of the intended order)?!

Basically, I think that worked out for you exactly as designed... ;)

Yeah - the one headstone that mentioned cheating still kind of makes me think that we weren't supposed to be able to do that, though.

No, the quest had said I needed to find a "ring of fire" (or whatever, I forget the exact name), and I have yet to actually find that ring. The quest completed itself regardless. That's another reason I think maybe we weren't supposed to be able to get to those headstones - perhaps the ring is theoretically protecting you from the flames, and the map is set up such that it assumes that if you've made it to that room, you've got the ring on you, so there's no conditional flag on the flames to harm or not.

On the other hand, perhaps you're right. 'spose we'll find out if BW notices this and comments. :)

BasiliskWrangler did deliberately create 2 ways to get to Old Moonrise; incase you can't find a Sigil of Fire (which is unlikely, as there are quite a few around) you can still get in by turning the headstone.
You can get to the cemetery by lock picking or by demolishing a fence near Kirk and walk all the way around.
Of course you're supposed to be able to get to the cemetery, you even get XP for finding it, because it's a 'secret place'.
What the text about being a cheater is about I've never understood, it comes across as odd at the least, but I've never seen an explanation as to why it's there.

I didn't know the 'Baptism by Fire' quest completed even without actually fulfilling the requirements for it, I thought that was a ritual father Nicholas had to set up for you, although I thinks it's nice for True Warriors who can't wear magic rings.
The fire never hurts, although your way of thinking is very logical; that it should hurt but not if you did it the right way; with the Sigil of Fire on your finger.

Since you have to either pick a lock (in someone else's home) or burn down a fence to get to the cemetery, I figured the "cheater" tombstone was just a whimsical way of saying that you were in an unauthorized area

I always figured the "cheater" tombstone was related to the "lucky numbers" tombstone in some way that escaped me.....

My thoughts on the cheater tombstone:
I figured that BW had made that graveyard for cosmetic purposes before he realized that he needed a backup way into Old Moonrise. He just never bothered to change the things the tombstones said.
Obviously that's just speculation though. It's just want came to my mind when I first read the tombstone.
