Stuck looking for Ulgolek the tree

I'm totally stuck in my search for Baziel and Ulgolek. Ranimer tells you that the tree is in the north-east of the forrest but how can I pass the broken bridges and avoid the Nidaria. Wandered about for hours and getting nowhere..

I have been in the forest part of the lair but can't open the portcullis to the room with the pentagram!!?

Am I missing something?

I had the same problem.

Go to the gate to the east of the area and notice that that the skeleton archers can shoot you through the gate... Throw, shoot or cast a magic spell on the explosive barrel behind them, it will flip the lever and open that gate for you.
