Different armor, same stats?

I found that there are different armor items that seem to do exactly the same: Same body part covered, same Light/Heavy rating, same base protection, just different icon and name. Are there any hidden stats or properties that my character doesn't see because his Lore or Armor skill is too low? Or are they really interchangeable? Because having different icons/names for basically the same items doesn't make sense in my opinion.

Why not? Such items are different in appearance, at least, and the variety gives the game world more depth. The fewer items there are, the more often you're going to find exactly the same thing in loot chests, which is boring. Also, items that differ in style present a minor opportunity for role-playing: is your character a noble knight-type with a longsword, or a vicious raider wielding a falcata?

A vicious raider wielding a falcata. But I'm trying to raise money for something heavier.

Seriously though, I thought there was a difference in weight? I've noticed armor pieces that are both heavy armor and have the same armor rating, but they weighed differently. Same with an iron falcata and an iron long sword. (which is why I went with the falcata)

Also, some of the items that weigh less are more expensive than their heavier counterparts, I believe.

With weapons and gloves/bracers, there is an advantage with less weight, since you can't cast if you're holding too much.

Ok, weight can make a difference. Probably should have looked harder.
