Yes, I've been busy tonight looking at new/old games.


Quite a bit of hype on Two Worlds to be found out there. Most of it, sadly enough, bad. Never one to judge something based on other people's opinion, I found and dloaded the demo. Installed fine, started up mostly alright. Tends to minimize to desktop a couple times before it'll load. No biggie.. Eschalon does that to me too sometimes.

Get it all loaded up, char created and all ready to go. The environment looks.. good. Shadows moving around, grass swaying in the breeze. My character looks cool from all angles. Yeah, I could get into this. Especially looking forward to riding horses! Okay, so I'm easily amused.

Problem. There's no cursor on the screen. I scratch head, dumbfounded by this anomaly. Where's my cursor? How do I move? Keyboard......

Joking right?

To be honest, I have no idea. From what I could gather, everything is controlled by the keyboard. Which is fine, for someone that can remember all the controls and is coordinated enough to pull them off.

I'm not. *sighs*

No mouse movement/action controls coupled with all the really bad things I read about this game just got it scratched off my list of games.

Just curious if anyone else had any experience with this game.

Anyway.. back to playing Eschalon and Witcher.

If memory serves (it's been awhile since I tried it), in Two Worlds you move with the WASD keys (the so-called First-Person Shooter style) and use the space bar for actions such as talking to NPCs and taking items. Mouse is used for fighting, Left-Clicks swing your weapon. Use number keys to activate feats (and whatnot) in your quickbar. That's all I remember off-hand, but note that I can remember this wrong. I'm sure if you search the mighty Net, you'll find a FAQ or something, that explains all the controls to you (plus you might be able to customize the controls though options menu or something).

As to the game itself, it never really inspired me much. I must confess that I only played it for a few hours, but never-the-less, during those few hours, the game did not interest or inspire me enough to continue playing. In adition, I didn't much like the combat mechanics (and there is a lot of combat). YMMV.

I've read a few positive comments about Two Worlds, though. Especially from those who liked the Gothic games, but I did not like it and I do like the Gothic games - go figure.

The mouse usage is quite common for 3D-RPGs:

Mouse movement means turning around
Left click is fight
right click is use magic

forward movement is "W".

As far as I recall either the demo download should contain a PDF-handbook or you will find it online.

Actually I found Two worlds quite good. In my ranking it would be below Gothic 1/2 but higher then Gothic 3.

Exploring the world was fun and the bunch of side quests, which are all linked to the main quest were entertaining.

plaing on easy or normal is no problem, if you play on hard and choose a magician, it can be tough, but possible

I would recommend to try the demo a little bit further.

Yes, I finally did find something that confirmed it is WASD style. Something I just don't like. Probably why I don't play a lot of 3D rpgs or first person shooters. I can't remember all the key functions and would spend more time looking at my keyboard than enjoying the game.

Besides there's been way too many bad reports on it not working well with the Radeon vid card, one of which I happen to be blessed with.

Never know, I may give it another try one day.. after I change vid cards.. but for now, I don't have enough game playing time to give to a game that may possibly cause me hardware failure. I'll pass and stick to the two games I'm enjoying now.

Still haven't finished Eschalon.. started a new character and still enjoying exploring. So.. I'm not complaining really.
