Pillars of Eternity II swipe from Eschalon ;-)

I was just watching the new game play video released at E3 for the next Pillars of Eternity game, and one of their "cool new features" was exploding gunpowder barrels. The interviewer thought that was unique and original, but we all know different (and I commented as much on the video). :)

Hmm, yes those exploding barrels are cutting edge, Obsidian. You need to give a raise to whomever came up with that one.

There's a lot of new role-playing concepts in our upcoming SciFi RPG that Obsidian may be interested in swiping.

Maybe you could see if they want to pay you a consultancy fee to give them "new" ideas. :)

Isn't there exploding barrels in Doom? I seem to remember there were.

Edit: In fact, let's be honest, people love explosions so much, they jump at any opportunity to include them.

 Of course! My reaction was really a goof on them- they sounded a bit like exploding barrels was some cutting edge feature that no one had ever done before.

But then again, has any RPG ever had movable exploding barrels?? Eh??!?

Well, Divinity Original Sin does... but that was released AFTER Eschalon, so no. As far as I can tell (and I have not played every RPG there ever were, mind you), you invented them. In RPG:s, at least.

Speaking of Eschalon, remind me again why I cant get it on android? I have been feeling the need to replay Escaholon lately, but my screen broke, so I connected the computer to the TV, and for some reason the game is tiny tiny tiny on my TV, so I don't really enjoy playing it.

Eschalon was made with BlitzMax. It was a great development platform...in 2005. They never expanded the support to include consoles or mobile devices.

We've moved on to Unity which does has support for all kinds of devices and platforms. Just for kicks, I was able to port a bit of Eschalon over to Unity, and it worked well. To port the entire series over would be a monumental task, but it could be done.

For now, we are working on the Sci-Fi RPG full-time. The Sci-Fi RPG is not isometric like Eschalon, so the base engines are not compatible, but they are sharing some of the rules set.

Well darn - I love isometric, but that's just a personal preference. Is it turn-based?

Absolutely. It feels a lot like Eschalon, but in a new perspective. I think you'll like it.

Hire a nubile and naive, yet overeducated and very clever intern desperate for any low-paying work and put her to good use. Problem solved!

You don't "hire" an intern. You get one to volunteer for the experience and credit in their major. ;-)

Oh my! That is too sinister, even for my taste.

I hope you meant to say not exactly isometric, but still somewhat close to Fallout 1-2's or Eschalon's camera angle. At a minimum do it like this:

Please don't make it its straight top-down, the camera looking down straight: those games are a big turn off avoidware no buy for me. I don't think I'm alone. Horrible examples are Trese Brothers Games. Worst examples:
