Is anyone currently in a game? By game I mean the pencil, dice, paper---->table top variety. No, it doesn't need to be D&D/AD&D specific. Any other system works. Either way, I'd like to hear from you here about it. I haven't been in one for a time, now, and am currently browsing the net in search of a good PBEM (play by email) as a newbie as far as PBEM's go. Thanks...

I play 4th Ed. D&D once a month - and played a 3rd Ed. D&D game for about 4.5 years with mostly the same crew - overall, I prefer 3rd Edition over 4th.

I'm curious about something I saw a few weeks ago in the store - The Black Company d20 system - based on Glen Cook's "Black Company" series. Seems like it could be interesting.

My group tried to get a modern day GURPS game going, but it fell apart pretty quickly. Same with the Eberron campaign based on the D&D 3.5Ed rules.

I am in a game on RPOL dot net. well actually I DM it.

You can read the chapters of my game at the link below. I just put up chapter 104 yesterday.

http://rpol.net/game.cgi?gi=7901&date=1229982349

Chapters are in the 'notice' marked 'stories of Knumythia'.

We currently have 2 npc's being run by players. The npcs were former gamers who had to drop out. I may be looking for someone to take them over. 1 is a dwarf fighter/thief. 2. is a cleric. My game is a 1st ed/ 2nd ed varient AD&D version.

I've always been curious about that style of game - I'll be taking a look at your postings there Dragonlady, to see what it's all about.

Have fun reading the chapters. And let me know what you think of the adventures my group has had. :) Every DM has a different style. Some don't like the way I do things, some do. I still have a couple of players who have been with me email gaming since 1989! :D So I must be doing something right.

It would be cool to get a game going with members of this forum, maybe even basilisk:)

Think that could happen?

Just curious: Does anyone else pre-date AD&D in the long---long ago, when there was simply D&D? I've got a couple of storage boxes filled with manuals, modules, and advanced rule and reg manuals--->the last of which took you beyond the first few levels.

I've also got old yearly aniversary issues of Dragon magazine, and other such D&D related materials, which come with filler "rules" and "regs" such as "Cantrips" for your Mage...detailed info on the "Gods," and what their stats are, in case you wanted to slip one in as an NPC...etc. Been thinking about DM-ing a game sometime this year.

Oh, I was surprised to see a post, here, of bygone days which mentioned the RPG system--->Tunnels and Trolls. I thought I was the only one who had (and has) that boxed set...heh.

Just me rambling...

Tunnels and Trolls??! I reember that, never played it table gaming but I have..or I think I still do..have a heck of a lot of the play by yourself modules. I kept me going when our gaming group folded up as they passed the bar exams and went their merry way to earn lots of moolah. Kept me going until we got a C64 and I started playing games on it and then got hooked to the internet..slow phone hook-up to local BBS's.

I'm going to have to see if any of those mods have made it thru the years...

Thanks for the memories! :

*ahem*

I started playing the red box, basic D&D, when my oldest brother received it on for his 12th birthday, in 1981. I was 8 at the time.

Prior to this, we played a version based on something read in a Dragon magazine (I believe) - a map was drawn, and annotations made - and we used thumbtacks to mark our locations.

So I think it's safe to say that I most definitely predate the AD&D system :D

My parents wouldn't let my brother and I play D&D ... so we snuck over to play it at the neighbor's house. Though, for some reason, it was okay to play D&D type games on the computer - just not PnP versions.

However, I think my parents knew we were playing D&D at friends' houses. One year, they got us a space-based PnP RPG - probably hoping we'd play it instead. Of course, what happened was that we still played D&D at friends' houses - and played the other game while the DM came up with new scenarios.

Can't remember what it was called, though. I remember it had cardboard markers to represent your characters and NPCs. I also remember you were supposed to start as a lowly cadet in some "star fleet", to gain experience and level up before you earned enough money to adventure on your own.

That sounds like Traveller, Walt. Played that, along with Paranoia, D&D (I think my brother still has both our original D&D set and the AD&D stuff), Car Wars, Heroes, lots of great PnP games back then.

Traveller doesn't ring a bell ... but it's been a couple decades.

I think it also had a strategic spaceship battle component. So if your characters were in a ship, the "DM" could make you part of some fleet battles. OR what normally happened to us ... we were in a scout/picket ship and had to run for our lives back to the friendly fleet, with enemy battleships hot on our tails and our rear shields failing.

Now I remember ... Space Patrol. Later called Star Patrol.

{edit} ... Which, I was just informed, later became Traveller. But that was about 5 years after I stopped playing it, which explains why I hadn't known.

The more I read the posts here, new and old alike, the more I think I am in the company of like minded people. Outside the computer, I've lost touch with the old crowd I used to game with. Life's like that, I guess.

Hmmm..."that" was certainly a sappy moment, heh.

Anyway, when I gamed as DM, or as a player, it was always with group designed mods, both homemade and purchased. Dragonlady mentioned single adventurer mods here, and I am wondering if anyone knows of any websites I could visit to check out those types of mods? Free or pay, either way.

Thanks people...

http://www.kenzerco.comhas a few solo adventure games and one is free on their site.

There also used to be which way books for adventure games set in the Lord of the Rings setting, but they have been out of print for years. There used to be a site that had two of the adventures available to be downloaded.

I haven't got to play with a group since I left college. I used to play lots of AD&D, Advanced Melee (Steve Jackson before GURPS), Traveller, Space Opera, Boot Hill, and a few others to see what they were like.
