Hero Quest:

Post by Rush »

Earlier, I downloaded the game. No...not the DOS game of the same name...but the one created by Gerwin Broers. I opened it up and played it a bit, and it looks kinda cool. It even comes with a built in quest-creator, and seems to be almost entirely mouse-driven.

Has anyone played this game before? If so, what did you think, and, have you any gaming advice on Hero Quest that you would be willing to share with the rest of the class? Anyway...here is the linker:

Kind of like Fastcrawl, only better and longer.

I downloaded this game a while ago and played it quite a bit, it really is awesome (and free)

I think it's pretty faithful to the original board game, which I used to spend hours playing with a friend of mine when I was little

I tried a couple of the fan made quests, they seemed ok too

In short, this game rules and everyone should try it out :!:

The single player dungeon game is freaking hard though, only got through it once with the Elf

Reading this thread makes me want to play it again...

Glad you stopped by, Geishaboy. Yep...the single character dungeon is hard. Not enough healing potions to be found, lol. I started with the tutorial, then a quest with all four characters, and finally the dungeon. I have not played any of them to the end...just checking them out for now.

I will have to check the game's site in order to discover whether or not the spells, the inventory and the save feature work(s) yet, or, are they future additions. So far, none of them work for me.

Whoa...amazing! I'd never heard of ANY of this before...as well all the linked sites were new to me as well and duly bookmarked! Massive thanks for posting this up---be sure to post any other such discoveries even remotely like this as you happen across them!

/downloading spree of everything...

Edit: This rabbit hole...it does deeper yet still!

I had no idea there was a computer version. I used to play Hero Quest when I was a wee young lad. I recently (couple years ago) got back into Board Games and lamented the loss of Hero Quest. I have found games like Descent and Drakon to fill the void in my heart quite nicely. I'll have to give this a whirl when I get the Windows partition back in order.

I probably should have first, checked with the developer's site, and then second, listed this game here as being beta, a game in the works, but downloadable, non the less, with semi-limited features.

From what I can tell the "beta" of the initial link is mainly tied to the letter "H" based upon the changelog. Last mention of this on RPGCodex was back in 2004 so I'd reckon once it gets past the Letter H or whatever other ones are next it'll swing back to moreso stable with more features in tow.

The Isometric one I linked doesn't mention being in a not done state, the top down one does, and there's no telling with the "module" one for online---though the fact it has 2 expansions built into it would indicate to me a good level attained. No telling on the other 2 module'ish online ones, though I'd reckon the .1 one is not as close "there" as the other .7 same as the HeroQuest module!

Whee!
