Hmm, this is gonna be hard, and I'm probably gonna change my mind in a couple minutes, but:
1) Geneforge 1
2) Geneforge 4
3) Echalon Book 1
4) Avernum 6
5) Geneforge 3
6) Geneforge 5
7) Avernum 5
Avernum 4
9) Geneforge 2
10) Nethergate, Avernum 1,2,3
I know I crammed that last one, but those games are all to good to be left out. As you can see, I'm a big fan of 'old style' RPG games, which is why Eschalon really floats my boat. I could give you a complete review and comparison of each of the above listed games, but I won't bore you.

Nothing is something, because it is the state of the absence of everything, as well as being a word in the english language and an idea formulated by mankind to attempt to describe the conception of the lack of everything.

Re: The Best 10 RPGs of all time!
I'm not sure I've played enough RPGs to even fill a top ten list, but here goes:
1) Eschalon: Book 1
2) Interplay's Lord of the Rings (old DOS game I still play with DOSBox)
3) Baldur's Gate
4) Quest for Glory 1 (old Sierra DOS game)
5) Aveyond: Rhen's Quest
6) Aveyond: Ean's Quest
7) Asguaard
The Three Musketeers
9) Eternal Eden
10) Darkstone
Guess I did play enough of them!

Re: The Best 10 RPGs of all time!
I can't really give an "ordered" list... the order seems to change every time I make one. I will list my #1, however, followed by nine more in no particular order... ^_^
1. Final Fantasy VI (Known as FF3 for SNES)
Final Fantasy IV (Known as FF2 for SNES)
The Original Fallout Series (DOS/Windows PC)
Pool of Radiance Trilogy (DOS PC)
Ultima IV (Original NES)
Morrowind (WinPC)
Baldur's Gate 2 (WinPC)
Neverwinter Nights 2 (WinPC)
Ultima VIII (DOS PC)
Ultima Online (Yes, it's an MMO, but it's still an RPG... and still going! - WinPC)
"Oh my god, Bernie! You didn't put Eschalon on the top ten!! You're so Crazy!"
Yes, it's true... there's just too many... considering that technically speaking, there's actually 14 on my "top ten" list. But Eschalon is one of those games that reminds me of all of those favorites (check out my personal review to see how much I enjoyed it)! Besides, if I include Eschalon on that list, it will mean excluding a game that someone else might miss out on otherwise. However... there is an "Honorable Mention" list...
Honorable Mentions:
Eschalon: Book I (Windows PC)
Final Fantasy I (NES)
Final Fantasy V (GBA, and the fan translated Super Famicom version via Emulation)
Final Fantasy VII-IX (Windows PC/Playstation)
Dragon Warrior I-IV (NES)
World of Warcraft (WinPC)
Oblivion (WinPC)
Two Worlds (WinPC)
Diablo I & II (This would be on the top ten, but because it leans more heavily on action, I stuck it down here - WinPC)

This isn't a communist state- you won't get shot if Eschalon fails to make your top 10 list. There are many incredible RPGs out there and I am absolutely flattered that Eschalon would even make anyone's Top 30 list."Oh my god, Bernie! You didn't put Eschalon on the top ten!! You're so Crazy!"

Dungeon Master
The Bards Tale
Eye of the Beholder II
The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind
The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall
Ultima 4
Ultima 7
Ultima Underworld
Might & Magic III
Wizardry 8
With respects to:
Wizardry 7, Neverwinter Nights, Baulder's Gate, Elder Scrolls: Oblivion (once it's been heavily patched and modded), Lands of Lore, Ultima Underworld II, the rest of the M&M series, and the first computer RPG I ever played: Ultima 2.

Re: The Best 10 RPGs of all time!
You know, I really enjoyed playing Dungeon Lords.... with a friend. It's one of those games that I pick up @ Best Buy whenever I'm in there and think about picking it up to play again (it's part of some triple RPG bundle). Maybe I should go through the few discs I have left and see if I still have a copy. 0_oSaxon1974 wrote: Wow, Dungeon Lords? hehe.
Solo, I wasn't really feeling it, but in multiplayer, where I can go rogue while my buddy slings spells... much more entertaining. It's a shame the sequel is on indefinite hiatus.
But I'm a big Co-Op gamer... and I think that's where action RPG's really shine. So take that for what it's worth.
Re: The Best 10 RPGs of all time!
I think it was a very underrated game, the Publisher rushed it out with a million bugs like so many games now days just gave it a bad rap but at least the devs didn't Disappoint the fans and stuck with it - I really enjoyed the gameSaxon1974 wrote: Wow, Dungeon Lords? hehe.

Re: The Best 10 RPGs of all time!
1. Ultima VII (The Black Gate > Serpent Isle)
2. Arcanum (could have been number 1... could have been)
3. Baldur's Gate Saga
4. Neverwinter Nights 2 (a great narrative but too many bugs)
5. Dark Sun 1 (huge load of bugs and badly balanced, but one of the best atmospheres ever)
6. Faery Tale Adventure 2
7. Icewind Dale + Heart of Winter
8. Divine Divinity (for the ingenuity of how it blends Diablo with true roleplaying)
9. Albion
10. Darklands
Games that could make the list but haven't played them yet: Drakensang 2, Eschalon Book II
Games that are great fun dungeon romps: Might and Magic VII, Wizardry 8, Wizards & Warriors

Let's see...
Chrono Trigger
Final Fantasy VI
Fallout
Baldur's Gate
Dragon Age: Origins
Secret of Mana
Final Fantasy Tactics
Kingdom Hearts
Earthbound
Eschalon Book I
Those aren't in any particular order, other than the order I could think of them. It would be too difficult, I think, to number them from most favorite to least favorite.
Hmm, a healthy mix of Eastern and Western there. I've only just recently started playing Western PC RPGs. For most of my life, I had only known Eastern console RPGs. Eschalon is the only indie game up there, but then, it's also the only indie game I've ever played...at least, so far.
(Also, I neglected the Legend of Zelda games, but I don't really think they qualify as RPGs. There is no leveling/XP system, which I feel is a vital aspect of the genre to qualify.)
