RPG Makers.

Post by Rush »

Knowledge, as well as Insite needed...

QUESTION ONE: Which system was created first:

The RPGMAKER XP, or, the RPGMAKER VX?

QUESTION TWO: Which system above is more user friendly towards newbies...to such systems...who are considering creating an RPG?

Thanks,
Rush.

RPG Maker XP was released in '04/'05 (Jap/Eng). VX is the most recent version of RPG Maker... released in '07/'08.

VX is suppose to be more user-friendly, with one major caveat:
Wikipedia wrote:One notable disadvantage from the previous version, however, is the lack of support for multiple tilesets when mapping, leaving the player with only a finite number of unique tiles with which to depict all the game's environs. Multiple player-made workarounds exist, but this remains a sore point among many RMVX users

Going to take a look. I'm not a programmer by any means, but if tooling around on it turns out to be entertaining...I've some spare time to kill with it.

Hey (to anyone)...was there an RPG Maker created for a console system a long while back? Maybe for the Playstation I or II, or the X-Box or some other system?

Through XNA (Microsoft's answer the the indie game making scene) there is an RPG Starter Kit, which is a top down environment, with separate, side-scroller battles. That could help you to develop for the Xbox 360 and PC, but I am unaware of any official ways to make games for the PS consoles.
