The Walls of Bratock (indie RPG from 1994)

Post by micks »

I recently remembered a true old-school indie RPG (vaguely reminiscent of -- and most probably heavily inspired by -- the Ultima series circa IV-V) that hooked me for hours back in the day. It was called "The Walls of Bratock", released as shareware (full game minus some extra goodies which if nice were not really necessary -- such as the "god mode" cheat code).
A search on the internet uncovered the website of Christian Boutin, the man who wrote the game back in 1994 and still has it available for download (complete with a speech pack for SoundBlaster users, too :)) I spent most of the last evening playing it.
So, without further ado, here's the link for the discerning patrons of the Drunken Lizard Pub. Some of the final screenshots on the game's site contain spoilers. Works great with DOSBox.
Christian's site also has the sequel to the original game, Flame Storm, which I never played but intend to now, as well as several other interesting projects that might be worth checking out.

Wow...pretty cool. Definitely....try and remember MORE from your younger days as I'd never heard about any of this in the slightest before.

DOSBox is your friend. http://dosbox.sf.net/

As for the game - I remember playing it, vaguely. It wasn't bad, I thought. Going to download it and give it another shot.

Or just download the lot http://christianboutin.com/osparchive/ - paid less than £4 for them.
