Ok, this isn't a true old-school RPG, being more of action RPG. Still, while it may be really challenging and infuriating at times (especialy when you lose your living form), it has superb graphics, atmosphere and unique & original flair. Of course, you have your standard footsoldiers and OMG KICKASS DRAGONS AND A DRAGON GOD!!! Ok got a bit carried away there. Anyway, the combat is nicely done (insta-kill you annoying zombies!
), the mechanics are nice and simple enough, though a handbook can come in handy.
But wow, the mood! Think hardcore in eschalon x100. The only checkpoints you gonna get is if you beat a boss, and that's a big IF, IF you manage to even get to one without getting slaughtered (or repeled in spirit form, I dunno). Only managed to beat 2 bosses, since I don't own a PS3 and was playing at a friend's, but DAAMN, dunno if I can stand the frustration of being killed by the same basic enemy, nor have the patience to farm
. But not many games emphasize the simple task of just surviving the next deadly thing (even survival-horror games are a cakewalk compared to this).
In any case it's an incredible experience that has to be had at least once. That is, twice, because you cannot avoid dying at least once in this game (unavoidable death)
