Eschalon: Book II version 1.04 BETA

Post by BasiliskWrangler »

Change Log for version 1.04 FINAL:
* Fixed a few bad focus points in the Character Editor.
* Some Merchants have had their base gold reserves raised.
* When reparing items, the cost of the repair goes into Merchant's reserves.
* Swapping equipment now makes noise which can break Hidden or Silent status.
* A minor map adjustment to the top level of Hammerlorne.

Change Log for version 1.04d BETA:
* Lanterns and Wands no longer get repaired when camping.
* "Cat's Eyes not working" bug fixed. Note that in the very darkest of dungeons, Cat's Eyes may not provide enough boost to actually benefit you- use Preditor Site instead.
* Haste canceled properly when Riposte Feat used.
* Dex/HiS reference in Character Editor text removed.
* Shield bonus info added to Character Editor text.

Change Log for version 1.04c BETA:
* Fixed "Cat's Eyes negates Hidden in Shadow status" bug.

Change Log for version 1.04b BETA:
* Fixed the broken dice re-roll in the Character Editor.
* Further tweaks to the way an enemy reacts to your 'hidden' status when you make noise.
* Removed references to DEX improving Hide in Shadows.
* Made a few more adjustments to the Player's Manual.

Change Log for version 1.04a BETA:
* Initial support for external "language packs".(4) See README.TXT for additional details.
* Fixed a script error on a chest west of Forsaken Coast.(1)
* Fixed a number of map errors affecting all platforms.(1)
* Fixed several Linux specific bugs.(1)
* Dexterity can now improve Move Silent as per the User's Manual.
* Entities can now "see" you if you are Hidden in Shadow and you make noise above your Move Silent threshhold.
* Entities can see you if you are invisible but producing light via torch, Gravedigger Spell, or lantern.
* Invisibity duration has been lowered.
* Containers are no longer accessable after you pass through a portal.
* Weather no longer follows you through a portal.
* Additional exit gates open on Talushorn L3 and L4 after specific events.(1)
* Chronometer now reports correct time.(2)
* Improved the way damage rolls are calculated and reported.
* Items that give Resistance bonus to all stats work properly.
* Resistance scores now cap out at 99%
* You can now cast spells (such as Firedart) on stunned creatures.
* You no longer get an error when trying to use an imbue/harden receipe without having an empty flask in your inventory.
* Having a very high Mercantile score no longer results in negative repair costs.
* You can now capture dialog screens.
* Clicking near your "Hunger" bar no longer activates the Quick Travel menu.
* You properly recieve the quest "The Secret Society" even if you choose to not tell Saint Gilhelm where you got the Looking Glass.
* Fixed a ridiculous amount of grammar issues pointed out by the "Grammar Trolls". (3)

(1) May require a New Game to see changes.
(2) May require purchasing/finding a new Chronometer to see changes.
(3) We didn't fix everything- a few reported issues I felt were uneeded changes. Also, some of the automated responses that require "an" instead of "a" in front of a word beginning with a vowel did not get fixed. This is a programming issue and will need to be addressed in a future engine build. Finally, some grammar changes that are embedded in maps will not be updated unless you start a new game.
(4) We are still waiting on people to finish translating the game. In order to test the function out, here is a link to an incomplete French translation: French (Incomplete) ... Furthermore, the new languages are only going to be for the TEXT files in the game- that means most menus and interface labels will still be in English for now. While this is not a complete translation, it should allow most non-english speaking persons to enjoy 95% of the game (dialog, narration, books, character editor functions, etc.). Future updates will include additional interface translations.

Darn... :(

Say, BW - is there anything we can do on our end to help you track down this bug?
I'd love to help "squash" this one! :)

+1

Ironic some of the Linux specific bugs (which are not trivial) are fixed in the windows beta.

I hope we get linux/mac beta as well this time to prevent brown-paper-bag bugs like in 1.03 that required platform specific 1.03a, etc. updates.

Change Log for version 1.04a BETA:

>>We are still waiting on people to finish translating the game

Dear Tom, I thank you for your job, your wonderful game, but may at the translation start from the needs of users? Believe me, we have the former Soviet Union (Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan), many will buy your game, whether for her normal version ...
And then we just deal with nonsense translating your excellent game, with all sorts of cuts ...

Has the bug about using scare spells on non-hostiles not being considered hostile been fixed?

Again, that's not a 'bug', it's a feature.

I'd like to talk about revising the mechanics of that, going into Book III.

But, for now, I think BW, and most of us, are quite happy with the way that operates in Book II.

I'm not fully aware of the bug you are speaking of, Sslaxx. The spell "Sparkling Wonder" is just meant to scare people because it makes you appear to have have powerful magick abilities, when really you are just casting a simple illusionary spell.

It's like if you were walking down a dark alley and some large guy wearing biker leathers and chains approaches you. He'd likely scare you enough to make you walk the other direction, even if he was harmless. It's not a crime to appear to be scary.

Some testing results

Post by Farwalker »

Thanks BW!
Here is some initial feedback from testing on 1.04a BETA:

1) Reduced duration for invisibility spell confirmed. Note that invisibility potion durations have not changed. (Not necessarily a bad thing, I'm just not sure if you intended to reduce duration across the board or just for the spell.) Or do I need a new game to see a change on potions? (I did go buy a few from merchants, but their stock may not have refreshed.)

2) Move silently benefit from Dexterity seems to be working fine, at a benefit of roughly 1 per 4 Dexterity. (Thank you for bumping it from the roughly 1 per 3 mentioned earlier.)

3) Loss of hidden status still seems a bit buggy. Specifics:
a) You can still attack with "hidden" status and never lose the hidden status so long as you don't hit space to wait or try to move. If you keep attacking, or change gear, you maintain the hidden status. Noise doesn't make a difference in this regard.

4) There does seem to be some different behavior regarding noise / combat, it seems a bit buggy but issue 3 may be interfering. Some examples with noisy attacks follow. (Notice that there is still an extra round delay before silence status updates, not sure if that's causing part of the problem):

Round - Start with this status - My action - Enemy response
1 - Hidden/Silent - Noisy spell attack (point blank) - Target attacks back
2 - Hidden/Silent - Noisy spell attack (point blank) - Target wanders
3 - Hidden - Noisy spell attack - Target wanders
(continues as per round 3)

1 - Hidden/Silent - Noisy melee attack - Target wanders, other adjacent enemies attack
2 - Hidden/Silent - Noisy melee attack - All enemies wander
3 - Hidden - Noisy melee attack - All enemies wander
(continues as per round 3)

1 - Hidden/Silent - Noisy ranged attack - target wanders if adjacent (if not adjacent may start towards me not sure), other adjacent enemies attack
2 - Hidden/Silent - Noisy ranged attack - All enemies wander
3 - Hidden - Noisy ranged attack - All enemies wander
(continues as per round 3)

Hope that helps!

Thanks...downloading (which goes incredibly slow, though me currently being in China may have something to do with that. I even needed an ssh tunnel to decently use the form today...).
