The unpickable lock?

Post by Snonskoid »

I have Pick Locks skill of 10, and I have still failed to open a "masterful adamantium lock" after 67 attempts. The lock picks all break on the third tumbler of this special, hidden, trapped item. Nor can one apparently bash the damn thing open.
Is this an unopenable lock?

From Traps and Locks:
http://www.basiliskgames.com/forums/vie ... =12&t=3512

Lock picking formula:
Chance to pick% = pick locks skill level * 3 + dexterity/3 + 50 - Lock Level * 10
Maximum success rate is 99%, minimum success rate is 1%

A level 10 lock at Pick Locks 10 would be:
chance to pick% = 10*3 + dexterity/3 + 50 - 10*10 = dexterity/3 - 20

Edit - I usually have Pick Locks at 15 before trying

I'm guessing you're at the stump. It is a tough lock, but it is pickable by tool or by spell.

Thanks for giving me some hope. Yes, that's where I am.
I'm using the pre-seeded option, meaning that in this game it will certainly take more than 67 goes. I suppose I must find more lock picks!
I haven't had much luck with lock melt spells before, so I haven't learned that one in this game.

The stump isn't even the hardest lock in the game, although the harder ones don't come until much later. Lock Melt is a very, very good spell - too good, really. For the number of skill points you need to use Pick Locks effectively, you could have learned enough Elemental to use Lock Melt just as well, plus lots of other good stuff. Plus you don't have to sit through the pick locks animation a million times.

I know - that's why I always use it. There is so much potential loot with it. Especially some awesome loot in Durnore...
