How do I enter the Akadai underworld?

I had decided not to kill and decapitate the chief Akadai. I have not been able to find an entrance to the underworld. Just in case killing him was necessary, I have experimented after saving the game right before I enter his compound. Killing him does not reveal an entrance. Killing his guards does not either. Where is the entrance? Do I have to kill him or is there another way to enter?

If I remember correctly, the King gives you a specific item.

When you have that item, go to the strange tree looking thing out off the pier. That will take you down if you have the item in your inventory.

You don't need to kill him. Either way, you will get a

gland that you can use to enter the underworld. Find the odd-looking plant in the southeast part of the main Mirkland map, stand next to it, and click on it.

How do we get OUT of the Akadai Underworld

I have: Akadai Gland, Akadai Kingspawn Head, Akadai Withered Head, Crux of Terra.

Unfortunately, if I remember correctly, there is a small chance that none of the three Fetid Grubs will drop it.
If this happens you can either spawn grubs, give yourself a tubor, or move your character outside, all using the editor. If you choose the last time, there is a chance that it won't trigger some important dialogue.

Really? I could have sworn they're 100% drop chance. I've always got 3 from the underworld and 2 more from the crypt in the mountains.

It makes sense that that would be the case, though I thought I remember a time when I only got 1 from the ones in Akadai underground, and 1 from the tomb.
I could be wrong - and in fact hope that I am.
