Lore, Intelligence and Item Identification

Post by SpottedShroom »

I've compiled what I believe is the authoritative reference on what lore/intelligence you need to identify what items. Unfortunately, the formula isn't simple to express mathematically, so I'll just provide a table. And since tables are a pain in phpbb, here's a link out to the Eschalon wikia:

http://eschalon.wikia.com/wiki/Skills#Lore

The short version is you need Lore 18 to identify everything with Intelligence 7, and Intelligence 168 (!) to identify everything with no Lore skill.

Oh, and here are the items by rarity. Note that the rarity is also used to generate random loot, so there are amounts of gold in the list, but they obviously don't require lore/intelligence to identify. Similarly, rarity 0 is items that never appear in random loot. There are also some repeats of names, like "Armor" and "Boots". These are actually different items with different attributes (armor rating, damage, etc.) and the same name. And some, like lockpicks, actually appear at multiple rarities.

Are these lists used to supply merchants too?

Now, here's the challenge! - How does the Lore spell work in to this?!... :P

Oh, good question, and an easy one to answer now that I have a save with items of every rarity in my inventory.

Lore Casting Level - Maximum rarity identified
1 - 2
2 - 4
3 - 6
4 - 8
5 - 9

So casting Lore at level 6 is a waste of mana!
