Just fine going to an isometric design. More content is preferable to most of us here, I would say. And not taking 5+ more years is a good bonus. ;-)

I was def looking forward to seeing your vision as a 3d game but can understand the issues for sure. Either way its gonna be a great game i am sure.

Thansk for keeping us in the loop!

I am excited at the idea of converting TRC over to an isometric engine.
Hooray! This is fantastic news! I love 2D isometric games - they usually look so much better than 3D ones; neat, tidy and detailed. Personally, I would have preferred TRC to be done as 2D-Iso regardless of the practical/technical considerations. In a world where 99% of games are 3D it's great that small studios like Basilisk Games dare to be different! Eschalon Books I-III are among the best looking games I've ever played, very atmospheric and immersive - though IMO the price for finest 2D-Iso RGP has to go to Divine Divinity:

I'd love to see a screenshot of that high-def isometric with Eschalon's textures, just so I have some eye candy to drool over. :)

Unfortunately I don't have that running anymore (guess I should have grabbed a screenshot). But do you guys want to see what the game used to look like when it was in 3D? Here's a shot from a small area I was working on. Sadly, this version of TRC will never see the light of day, but hopefully the isometric version will be just as cool.

Nice!!!

I love isometric, though, so I think it will still look cool.

You could still use the 3D version to generate images, which you could use as still or video backgrounds for title screens, menus, cut scene dialogues, etc., as well as promotional graphics.

That is a damn sweet screenshot of what TRC might have been.

But I do prefer isometric, so I'm cool with not ever getting to play this version.

I am intrigued by some of the images in that shot. The windmill, etc. Tantalizing.

For a really long time, while I was playing Fallout, Fallout 2, and then eventually Baldur's Gate, IWD, PS:T, etc, every time I would start playing I kept thinking to myself, "I just wish this were a little higher resolution!" There was a long time when it felt like no-one was making games like this anymore. I know in the last 5 years there has been a huge resurgence of this format, and I'm really glad.

I love the Isometric format. Not that I don't enjoy a first person perspective game, but I think the Isometric format is really fun. I haven't made my way all the way thru Eschalon III, but I thoroughly enjoyed I&II.

The nice thing about growing up with CGA graphics is that I don't have to worry about not being able to enjoy a game because of graphics :) Someone was talking about the original DOS Pool of Radiance the other day and now I'm thinking about replaying it.

As you will go back to isometric, have you thought of releasing on Android and Iphone ?
Not sure if it is worth it, but have you thought about it ?

I have thought that besides the small text Eschalon Book would be great on smarpthone.

As I recall, one of the main reasons for a switch to the Unity engine was to allow compatibility with more platforms, including phones. Not to suggest that TRC will be released for iOS or Android, but at least it should be a possibility. With BlitzMax, the language that the Eschalon games was in, that was a complete non-starter.
