I'm not sure if by "everyone" you mean all PowerMac users or all Mac users in general, but, I haven't noticed any slowdowns. I did purchase my laptop fairly recently, though.

2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
2 GB RAM
GeForce 8600M GT w/ 256 MB
Maybe for Book 2, more graphic fine-tuning options could be provided? For example, many games have several levels of shadow detail available since rendering shadows seems to take a heavy toll on many video cards.
