2 Questions: How do I pick up a powder keg and how do I make potions? I have potion recipes and (hopefully) enough alchemy knowledge to make simple potions, but how do I do that? Second, how do I pick up powder kegs?

Powder kegs are fixed positions in Book 1 unless you are a goblin.

Alchemy is done by clicking on a bottle button at the screen's bottom and then moving the required ingredients into the slots and an empty bottle for the mixing box that appears. Save before doing this because if you make a mistake or aren't the right level you can lose the ingredients.

There's no bottle button at the bottom of the screen. Are you talking about the quick slots?

The bottle button for alchemy didn't appear until Book II. As I remember you right click on alchemy ingredients to bring up the interface for alchemy in Book I?
