Nice. I think some of those screenshots might need a little bit of LtF captioning.... ^_^

Great interview. I really like Thomas' commitment to making exactly the kind to games I want to play. With the AAA games no matter what is said or shown ahead of time I never know what to expect. I know I will like Book 2 very much and that is not something I have been able to say about a new game in quite awhile.

I really like the new shot he gave me for that....I Was thinking...now if I move that explosive barrel there...blow open the door then...

I had fun doing this, I think I had an unfair advantage in that I had some back ground info before asking the questions so Iw as generally able to stear the questions in the direction I wanted. But overall, I'm happy....feel free to post that link to any sites you go to....Its good for basilisk and Immortal machines/colony of gamers.

[From the new screenshot] – Orange dots on the Minimap are new! (That character must have high Cartography skill!!) My guess is that they've added torches to the Minimap and they show up as orange dots.

Beyond that, too bad about horses.
I already knew they wouldn't show up from reading around here, but it's still too bad about that.

Still, getting to sail around in boats (assuming we will be able to do that in Book II) will more than make up for it!

And, lastly, I'm hoping BW & co. decide to release some of the editing/mapping tools along with, or soon after, the release of Book II. Now, I'm not saying I expect a 'wide' or 'public' release of these, and I don't expect a fully "user-friendly" version of the software until the Book III. But it would really help bridging the gap until Book III is released if BW would release primitive editing/mapping software on an individual basis to some of the trusted (and software sophisticated) readers around here, so that some user-created scenarios could be created in the wait for Book III. Just IMHO.

P.S. Nice interview! :)

Something I just realized that surprised me a bit. I'd noticed before that the minimap resolution seems a bit low I initially disliked this but I never gave it much thought cause it was never important to me. But now that I give it more focus it almost seems like a throw back to REALLY old-school CRPGs that came with what you might call early Videlectrix graphics. Considering this I very much like the pixel-ly resolution of the minimap as that used to be all that we got. It makes me very thankful for technological advances.

Awesome....we are the advertisers for this game, its that simple really...You like this style of game, want it to grow? Push it!

I'm pretty happy right now, they even put a post in the sites main news so its right out there for people to see!

OH Basilisk...there was an invite from Vodoo on there to do a podcast if you wanted...

BTW it is now front page news at Rpgwatch.

Excellent review! Rune_74. The questions were well thought out. BW responses were straight and to the point. BW also proves the old adage: Neccessity is the mother of Invention.

OK, we are close up to 750 views of that interview. They were asking yesterday to get thomas on a podcast...(thomas you aren't shy are you?) gotta sell yourself to sell your game;)

Very happy with the reception it has recieved, however, I think most of the credit should go to Thomas, I had the easy job just to throw him some questions he had to actually answer them.

I'm looking at making this a thing I do with alot of indie games including doing a follow up when closer to release.

Once again, thanks guys!

That's a great interview :) I do feel sad about crossbows not making it into Book II thought, I think they would have been a nice fit for healers and mages. Although I might be influenced by DND in that.

Ok the interveiew is now at around 1260 views which I think is pretty good for an indie rpg....the site also has a thriving discussion thread on the game.

I'm happy with this:)

Great work Rune, I want to see Indies thrive and since they dont have big budgets to advertise its great that you are helping out!

Basilisk is the most promising Indy and actually Book II is the game I am most looking forward to big studios included so I hope they keep making games.

I really did very little other then bring two parties together and throw a few questions at basilisk....all credit should goto Colony of gamers and Basilisk...

A little of topic but I have two more interviews as a possible, one with rampante coyote of frayed nights fame and one with iron tower studios....as I said these are just in the early stages.

I have been thinking of the possibility of an indie assistant marketing site, not sure how far I want to take that yet though.

8. How have you changed combat to make it a bit more strategic?

We have added a few options which increase the tactical aspect of combat. For starters, there is now a "Combat Mode" selector that switches between four styles: Normal, Power, Finesse, and Parry. For example, selecting Power mode allows your character to use extra force while attacking with a weapon to incur 20% more damage, but at a -20% ToHit penalty. The opposite is true when using Finesse mode, where you gain 20% more ToHit accuracy at a cost of 20% less damage. The third mode is Parry. While in Parry mode, all the skill points you possess in the weapon that you are holding are applied to your Armor Rating- so if you have a sword skill of 10, these 10 points are added to your Armor Rating. However, this defensive posturing has a penalizing effect on your ability to attack, as both your ToHit and your maximum damage are reduced by 20%.
Are there any other changes to the combat system besides this? Combat is always the part of any RPG I'm most interested in.

What you're talking about here sounds similar to what other games call "stances." I suppose you might use Power if you're up against magic users you want to finish off quickly? Finesse if you have a high plus-damage weapon, or parry to give your own spells more time to work?
